A little about me:
Sean Daniel is a man. A man of simple needs and desires. And the one desire, no, the one NEED, that stands above all is to spread the challenges, joy and intellectual stimulus of music to people of Earth and beyond.
Born on the mean streets of upper middle class suburban Chicago, Sean learned the ways of the world through the dizzying heights of success to the lonesome depths of failure and emerged with the promise of a better tomorrow reflecting in his eyes and fiery passion in his belly.
He plays and teaches guitar on his KZbin channel where he regularly releases original music and projects to the adulation of legions of fans, who often compare him to Chris Pratt and one time Ryan Reynolds. He’s currently in the market for a nice leather jacket.

I was just struggling with unwanted string noises earlier today and thinking that I should search out some tips about how to reduce them. Seems like the tips found me before I could do that. Thank you for the always great content.

100% agree with you on Ray's Jolene. I have that same inane convo with many people every time i play it on my acoustic. All due respect to Dolly, ever since i heard the better Jolene at the end of The Town back in 1990 when it came out i was all in on Ray and never looked or listened back to Dolly's. It was Ray's Jolene that made me buy my first acoustic and discover the joy of learning songs front to back. Awesome job by you and Hannah on your haunting version and thanks for the noise redux insight. Illuminating as usual!

Your Right it works! "Day Tripper" is my tuning song... low E pause, G, Gb, B, E, D, B, Fb Played on the E,A, & D strings. I know the exact pitch of that sequence of notes by memory. From there the high strings are easy to tune. Cheers!

On acoustic I learned to "find" my next chord place by using thumbas as hook on freatboard. So I can lift fingers from strings. It's also help when training differnt chord voicing.

I love both Jolenes and have performed Ray's. I give the edge to Dolly's strictly on merit as a song, but the uniquely 21st century hustle of picking a name that will probably get you a bunch of search hits from people who were looking for something else demands a certain respect. I can only hope people have similar arguments about my upcoming album of original material: The Best of George Jones 1955-1967.

Sweet Madam Blue, by Styx. That trip from the Fmaj7 through the E and back around to Am - if any string is even slightly off, that will give it away.

Re: palm muting - how do you do this on a Strat? I noticed all palm muting videos from any teachers feature a non-strat guitar :) Strats have volume control *right there* where my palm wants to go, and when I try to somehow squeeze it in it inevitably ends up messing up the volume control. In the end I end up palm muting E,A,D strings but G and up are all just ringing loud, which ends up being weird sound

If you r in a minor key and figuring out chords then if u r playing a lead and feel the intense need to change the chord and the the key you tap in that lead turns out to be the 2nd diminished then your correct chord will always be the 7 Major Chord in that minor key ... I m facing it a lot what about you ????

Thanks for showing Ray a little love, he deserves it! I prefer the 'Dolly' version, done by Jack and Meg White, over both of them. And as I've said before, you have a great palm muting thing. That type thing is almost impossible to teach, some things just have to be learned on your own? Anyway, I'm a terrible teacher, people should be thankful they have you, and others like you!! Ray and Dolly's song only share a name. They're totally different songs. It's literally like comparing Apples and Oranges because they're both fruit. Sure... knock yourself out if you want to have a preference, but they're not interchangeable. Which do I prefer? Dolly's, but that's because I think the story is more interesting. Ray's is basically about a guy who lost his love and is doing bad. There's like a bazillion songs (mostly country) with that theme. Yes, his lyrics are evocative and really well written. And the tune is well performed. But Dolly's story about the dynamics between two women and a love triangle? That was kinda revolutionary and let's be honest, there's not that many stories like that in pop music still. Plus, Dolly's tune is certainly more catchy than Ray's. That's not to suggest I don't like Ray's because, well, I do, but like I said.... they're different critters.
