Hi Robert! I would like to emphasize how much this stuff works and how easy it is. We actually modelled the same rad-hard power supply from TI, and also Renesas, using the same methodology that Ben uses. Of course, it is time consuming. But, if a dumb guy like me managed to do it, then anyone can. And if anyone is wondering, you can use LTSpice or any SPICE simulator you have access to. If anyone is curious, the fundemental principles of this modelling technique comes from the paper by Ridley, Ray. (1991). A New, Continuous-Time Model For Current-Mode Control.

You may also make a video for multi-phase VRM/pulse power supply simulations in QSPICE (especially load transient analysis).

I think an important point to mention is that super accurate simulations are only required when you are getting close to a performance or cost limitation. I.e. you are pushing the capability of the components or are trying to use the fewest/lowest cost components possible. For those of us who have to design entire systems in a reasonable time a more feasible approach is to use parts well within their performance capabilities and/or modules that have already been designed, such as the Analog Devices uModules.

Hi Robert, could you also have a video that walks through how to extract PCB with ADS PIPRO?

Thanks, what if we do not have access to COMP pin for some buck regulators? Or LDO? How to do the behavior model?

Hi Robert, can you guys explain the theory of harmonic balance? How do this HB operate or work to simulate this result?

The part I dont get is that it seems that all these simulations of power supplies (and other components) are all done in conjunction with actual built hardware. That largely defeats the benefits of simulation, if you need the hardware measured… How can I accurately simulate and estimate the power supply BEFORE building any hardware?

I still found it very interesting 1) first to learn the concept of power supply simulation 2) to see how accurate the simulation can be. BTW: often these software companies are giving interesting discounts
