This is literally the ONLY video on "how sing like Axl Rose" that actually demonstrates his technique and you actually sound ALOT like him. So to practice this,do you recommend just doing the vocal fry stuff you were doing in the beginning of the vid,before applying it to actual singing?
@RockYourBestVocals
@RockYourBestVocals 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Dark Side, yes - I would practice the fry technique so you are comfortable implementing that in different notes throughout your range... once you are comfortable with that I would work on singing the song and smooth out any 'rough spots' after (as there will likely be some parts of your range which are harder to implement this particular false-chord fry to... Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment!!! 🤘🏼😎🤘🏼

OMG (pun intended) did you really listen to him?!?? Listen again critically and then if you still feel he is great get a hearing appointment or something. He should not be trying to sing this way. It is like me before voice lessons with a correct teacher decades ago. Listen to me then him... night and day because he is what I was trying back when I was doing it WRONG. I am sure he will find a bar somewhere to present this crap to with drunk people who do not care but this guy is nothing like Axl and technique is so bad if you do this crap it will hurt your voice permanently over enough time. I am so lucky I found a great teacher when I did. I could be sounding like him or worse!

Everyone knows Axl Rose from Guns N Roses is one of the greatest and most influential singers of all time, and so many people want to sing like him, but VERY FEW can ACTUALLY teach YOU how to sing like him. In this video, I will show you EXACTLY how to sing like Axl Rose, so you can practice these techniques to enhance your own voice to sound like the legendary singer of Guns N Roses yourself! No extra lessons, or fees required. Hope you enjoy this video!

My trick for explaining how to get axls tone is think of Margaret Hamilton's wicked witch "ill get you my pretty and your little dog too" if you can say that like Margaret Hamilton, take that into a singing voice and you can figure out axls tone from there.

that's exactly the technique I use as well. I learned it from Gregory west who's also a KZbinr he calls it the flageolet tension. lot of squeeze using vocal fry and singing notes through the vocal fry that's how it feels to me. its a new feeling for me and took me ages to learn because I started off singing with falsetto and turning my falsetto into an chesty mix until greg taught me there's two ways to find your high m1, one is through falsetto and the other is through vocal fry/flageolet/headvoice. If anyone interested: I found my falsetto mix by singing in falsetto softly then slowly increase the volume of my falsetto and sometimes it likes to pop back into m1 and it feels very easy to sing m1 higher when I'm in that spot with the flageolet mix or the one that's demonstrated in this video, I found it by doing vocal fry and at the same time trying to sing notes through it, I had to do this by squeezing a little. Distortion is very easy to manipulate to make more or less with this technique for some reason. The falsetto mix is impossible for me to add distortion but not "impossible" of course.

this is great... but one thing I wish vocal tutorials would show is that... when you are doing this you want to add EQ and compression to your mic before doing this. Theres loads of people trying this stuff on a straight up dry mic, and pushing too hard to get this specific (and other) sounds without realizing half of this is pulling down the low and some mid range, and balancing out with compression. especially on a 58
@RockYourBestVocals
@RockYourBestVocals Жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for that! I think I had a compressor on my mic back then but not sure if I was running through it at the time (can't recall what I did then, but I certainly do run it now) what frequencies would you reduce? I did some minor EQ'ing but just a bit... I did use a 'high pass' (cut out anything below 200hz)

Absolutely great stuff! As far as I search, they only person to ACTUALLY SHOW how to sing exactly like him, with the techniques and everything.. I just found your channel and will surely just sit whenever I have time and watch all of your videos 😂 it seems like this channel is a treasure after all! Quick question tho. Even tho I "understand" the technique and try it myself with "OK" results, my throat gets "burned" after 5-10 mins of continuous singing (if I cover 2 songs for example), and the higher the notes I hit, the faster I get sore and can't "re-hit" the same notes for a couple of hours. Is this fixable? Do I just need to keep practising in order to get my chords more used to hitting higher notes with rasp easier, or will this technique damage my chords permanently? Thank you in advance and keep up the great work!
@RockYourBestVocals
@RockYourBestVocals Жыл бұрын
Oooh the inability to “re-hit” is likely due to swollen (inflamed) vocal folds due to excessive air passing through them. You need to work on holding back the air. Try to pretend you are singing under water and try not to make any bubbles. I can share more specific techniques for this if you want to book a 1:1 session - IF you’re serious about singing…and if you value preventing damage and pain 🤷🏼‍♂️

I'll throw my .02 cents in on this one. I approach Axl's upper register as a falsetto with grit. Because in your examples when you switch to "clean" mode to sing clean in that upper register, I bet a million bucks Axl can't sing clean up there. I've never heard him do it anywhere even once. Hence the vocal technique he developed which I call "Gritty Falsetto" lol. And when he does sing clean, it's always in the lower register. And his voice does go LOW and deep. Whether it's singing "Where do we go now", or an even better example is most of the vocals on the song "It's So Easy". He's clean and low. In fact there's not much grit in there at all when he's down that low in baritone.
@RockYourBestVocals
@RockYourBestVocals 3 жыл бұрын
You're probably accurate in that assumption that he could be using a gritty falsetto... hid voice does have a sort of 'lighter' feel in the upper register, so yeah it sounds like he is using a more 'relaxed' voice (i.e. modified falsetto) Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment!!! 🤘🏼😎🤘🏼

Trying my luck if anyone can help me out. I have no problem with the rasp in headvoice and it sounds almost identical to Axl. I have problems with rasp in my chest voice (verse of Nightrain and that kind of register) anyone any tips on that?
@RockYourBestVocals
@RockYourBestVocals 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Viktor I am able to add rasp to my chest register by adding more compression from your diaphragm/abdomen... also what may help you is when I have 'rasp' in headvoice I slowly bring the note down to my chest and feel that rasp engaged the whole way... if it cuts out, analyze WHERE it cuts out, and go from just before it cuts out to see what different feeling you experience. Much of singing is about feel so nobody else can really tell you how something SHOULD feel because everyone feels something slightly different.

Any tips on how we can find our own voice and be as natural and raw as possible? Great video though!
@RockYourBestVocals

My biggest tip for finding your own voice, is write your own songs. What comes through you when you are writing your own songs is the most true version of you (if you follow me on instagram @rockyourbestvocals, you can see where I write a song a day and post to my story... doesn't matter to me what I write, I just put down the first thing that comes to me and I don't care if it's good or bad - don't judge it because it comes from the universe... let me know how you get on with that! 🤘😎🤘

Ive done it a different way. It sounds more like him but its hard to say words that have T, And Q because of the way i let the rasp and breath exit. I sung about 7 songs yesterday and today my throat is still sore. But i dont know if thats from the rasp, or the force i had to use to pronounce a few words. Or just from the pure screaming. Is there a specific way im supposed to exhale while screaming?
@RockYourBestVocals
@RockYourBestVocals 3 жыл бұрын
oooooohhhhh yes, if your throat is sore, you're doing something 'wrong' (I don't like the idea of right/wrong, but proper sustainable vocal technique should never hurt)... could be where you are 'forcing' it from... try pushing the air from your abdomen and RELAX your throat - let me know how it goes... sign up for my FREE training on my website (link in description) which should help with the concept! @RockYourBestVocals
@RockYourBestVocals 4 жыл бұрын
Axl most certainly was NOT singing falsetto - you can see it in his body on live performances, he is pushing the notes... unless that was a recent performance they were commenting on. You CAN get some similar rasp with using a type of 'falsetto' but it's not EXACTLY a falsetto voice, but more of a 'modified falsetto' - that's because falsetto is typically very airy (a lot of breath pushed through the vocal chords). I hope this helps! Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment!!!🤘😎🤘

@RockYourBestVocals
@RockYourBestVocals 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sending that live in paris - actually he has quite an 'open throat' style (not necessarily nasally), but he pushes that 'raspy' sound out the top of the back of his nasal passage. The open-throat technique combined with too much air expelling caused a lot of damage to his voice, and he has lost range because of this abuse. see the video at 3:01 where he sings 'count your stars I'm home again' - you can hear the rounded open throat on 'count'.... Thanks for takin the time to watch and comment! 🤘😎🤘

My throat hurts watching this! Poor axl, super cool and unique voice but it seems he’s always had some difficulty maintaining it over the years. Even in his prime it was hit and miss and would at times lose the melodic quality and start sounding like skelator. Seem very few of the rock legends can pull off those types of vocals as they age. I think maybe Steven Tyler is one example of someone keeping their voice more consistently in older age.
