The solfege for the harmonic minor written by "Lightening in my Hands" is wrong. She wrote 6:00: Harmonic minor Do - So - Do - Do - Re - So - So - Le - Ti - Do. In fact the Re should be Le. That's what he is singing: Do So Do Do Le So So Le Ti Do

I love your videos, and have seen more improvement in my range with things like your Baritone warm ups, and of course this one. Your exercises actually helped me repair my voice after a nasty cold, AND have helped me with my fry screaming funnily enough! Is there any chance you can aid us with vibrato, or can you suggest anything that might help me control it?

Do you ever do minor based off of la? I was always taught that the last sharp on the right is ti and the last flat is fa. That way, C is do in a minor and C major. It’s worked for me and I am confused by why people go off of do instead of la.
@JeffRolka3 жыл бұрын
Great question. No, I do not teach it that way. Not to say one might not learn well in that configuration,. Best, Jeff
@sliverhandsonbasses2 жыл бұрын
It’s an intricate question: technically speaking learning the minor starting from “do” can be more appropriate due to the perfect cadence usually employed in minor progressions (especially for jazz), because it strengthens the sense of proper tonic resolution. Singing the NATURAL minor starting from “la” gives you the idea of aeolian mode, therefore more related to the major key. THAT SAID I think that both approaches can be useful, and, outside of school, one could stay with the one who fits best his needs! 😊 IMHO, by the way!
@maxxiong Жыл бұрын
@@sliverhandsonbasses It depends on if one uses solfege as a tool for theory or reading. If you are reading, the only consistent method is to follow the key signature and use the major key center as "do" which usually results in la-based minor unless the piece changes into the parallel minor very briefly without changing key signature.

Good video.I had a bit of a problem getting my breath right .Watched to see if you were taking a breath ,hard too tell. I could go through the sequences without a breath but if I took a snatched breath I felt more comfortable.What are your thoughts on breath control.

Minor riffs like this are easier to zone out in! I wonder why?
@ollied12006 жыл бұрын
Generally, I find that the melancholic feeling of the minor key makes me (and you, perhaps) more reflective, zoning me out in a sense. Does that fit with how you feel?

I love these videos and practice them faithfully, but I know zero about music theory, or even how to read music. I took piano and violin when I was little, but even then I never really got the hang of reading music. I get a lot of nice compliments on my voice and enjoy singing, so I'm just hoping that along with the ear training, I'll learn by osmosis.
@JeffRolka4 жыл бұрын
Osmosis is good, but I'd recommend a bit more than that if for no other reason than to expedite matters. There's plenty online including even a bit on my channel: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rHjWn39oq7aIfpI Best! Jeff

Hai Jeff, I've been doing this exercise for almost 2 months but I often feel dizzy or my throat feels dry. Am I doing this in the wrong way? Please tell me. Sorry if my English is bad. Thank you.
@JeffRolka2 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear that you're having difficulties! Being dizzy could mean that you're hyperventilating, moving too much air. That may also negatively affect your throat in terms of dryness.

This is really hard. I feel like it goes on forever and I'm pooped out. It's great though. I'm going to come back to it again. I started with the longer one for bass baretone and this is a little easier to follow especially with the notes that someone left. Sorry I'll lose my comment if I look for their name right now. But this requires a level of stamina I don't have yet. When I took singing lessons years ago I was told I was a baretone or bareten(or) which I think is a Broadway term? But I think my voice is higher now? I'm considerably older and I do feel like my voice has settled in ways that I don't feel like I have to strain or reach. Don't get me wrong if there's talent it's quite raw, but I feel more grounded and ascending isn't as disconnected as it used to feel. I think yoga has helped to just because it's great for physical awareness. Thanks for the video Jeff 👍.🎤❤️🎼🎹🎶
