You are correct. Remember that these are only temporary exercises meant to "kick-start" the vibrato, they aren't actually finished vibrato sounds, so keep the volume and range pretty simple when doing these. Thanks for the comment.

this man is so right, i slowed down my vibrato (never had voice training) and it sounds exactly like those 3 excercises can do for you, not the back and forth business i'm hearing that you should do between 2 different notes,

Thanks, Jennifer! I love it when singers can get their vibratos working when they'd just about given up on it! So many teachers just make students feel bad by saying "it'll come" or "singing freely and it will happen". Well, that's not always true. Sometimes nature needs a little push!

I been through a bunch of videos that explained exercises and such. I still could never get the vibrato. Funny enough, it wasn't the video itself, but the description comparing vibrato to an air-hose underwater, that finally got that *click* that allowed me to figure out how to do it.

@MowLiao I know my reply is a little bit late, but here's something you can try. Start out with an extremely slow vibrato. Singing it on a note like "Ah," it might sound/feel like "Haaa...haaa...haaa." You should feel a sort of flipping somewhere in the back of your throat. Doing this extremely slowly will get the general feel and control of how it's done, and then work on doing it faster. If this doesn't work, try slowly varying the note by half steps, then faster. This works for some.

@rafanavega (You have miss-read my post. Please read through thoroughly before commenting.) Vibrato is the oscillation between pitches, sing your scales and practice on switching pitches faster and faster until you begin to feel how to do it. Don't expect to do it perfectly over night, you need to practice. Encode it into your muscle memory will make it feel natural or effortless. You are the one controlling your voice, it is called proper technique.

I can do vibrato but it has problems...a singer told me I need to learn to "tighten it up". It is often not consistent sounding I think. Also, I LOVE Josh Groban's music and he is the master of Vibrato. When I sing the song "Thankful", I can do almost all the song perfectly except the loud, long vibrato part, the word "light" near the end. My vib is very uneven & forced - sounds bad...it's driving me crazy! Sometimes it is ok though, but not perfect. Why do you think this happens?

Okay, so I've been reading different things. If I'm correctly using vibrato, will my "Adam's apple" move while my voice is pulsing? The movement very subtle, but it's there. In other words, is vibrato more mechanical (consciously adjusting the pitches in my voice by adjusting my vocal cords), or is it more reactive (learning how the air flows on my larynx, and manipulating that to create the vibrato effect)? I hope my question makes sense.
@slafleur79
@slafleur79 14 жыл бұрын
I am wondering also, are you teaching a vibrato that you pulsate with from your diaphram? I have been really confused with myself how to sing with vibrato and am not sure if doing correctly. I know that I sometimes sing with a vibrato from my throat and it is really hard to not do that. Then I sing with one that seems to come from my diaphragm. Please help- I guess telling me how it feels when singing correctly might make more sense to me. (do u feel any movement in stomach?)

hey eric. is this what singers like tori amos had to learn for their vibrato? or is this more operatic? i dont like the opera vibrato. i like the kate bush/tori amos one lol
@singwithpower
@singwithpower 5 жыл бұрын
I hate to lay it out there like this, but MOST opera singers have horrible, wobbly vibratos. It's a big reason why so many people can't stand listening to opera. There are so many bad singers in opera. Just because it is classical, doesn't make it good! Don't get me wrong, I love opera and classical music, as I do many styles, but I teach my opera students to sing with a controlled vibrato.

@StormWHM I have not misread your post; I believe it was you that didn't understand what I said. You stated: "Using yout throat makes it tighten up and then it starts to hurt and fatigue you." You state that *using the throat* is malicious - fallacy. Doesn't matter the intention behind it. Using the throat 'does not necessarily bring those conditions you previously stated'. Only it's bad usage.

Not a dumb question! Let me just say that it will help develop your vibrato to the BEST speed for your voice, usually a little faster than most singers use, but it doesn't have to be fast. One of my favorite singers has a vibrato that is around 4 per second and he's great!

Yes, anyone can have it. However, sometimes nature needs a little nudge! Technically, vibrato isn't what I would call "natural". Hi Eric, I just bought your vibrato program, and I started doing the exercises yesterday. I already have a vibrato that I discovered 2 weeks ago but my vibrato is uneven. I would like to ask a few things because I'm a little confused with some of your exercises, my vibrato is 5 pulses per second, so do I need to just follow the 5 pulses exercises only or do the faster pulse exercises as well? and also, I can sing with vibrato in descending tone but my vibrato doesn't come out if I sing in steady tone or ascending tone. Thus, I'm wondering if this will improve over time through constant vibrato vocal practices or am I doing something wrong? Looking forward to your reply.
@singwithpower
@singwithpower 5 жыл бұрын
Wow! I'm so sorry to be so late in my reply! If the vibrato is uneven, then you might be moving ahead to quickly in the exercises. Never go to the next speed until your pulse is very consistent at the speed you are at. Your question about vibrato in the lower notes is a good one and I"ll address that in another video soon. Thanks again for your questions!

If you aren't singing with vibratto, you are probably tense. It takes time to fully open and relax. Vibratto comes naturally when everything is in place. Just work on your technique and let your tension go to gain vibratto. It isn't manufactured from the stomach, it is a natural variation of pitch from your vocal chords when you sing freely.
