Effective Martial Arts

Күн бұрын

Slipping and countering punches is a very advantageous stand-up striking strategy, because you are applying simultaneous defense and offense, and you don't have to deal with the impact of your opponent's strikes as you do when you block. It is a bit more risky, and does require more practice, skill and timing to apply correctly. So you do need to be able to block and counter punches both at long range and short range, which we already covered in detail in our beginner-level videos.

This video is high class. No bullshit. I use many of these in my sparring already, but this is a superb compilation. Also the point on always head movement is 100% right, noticed it myself. Had just a short glance on your other videos. Very good stuff. Subscribed!

+Effective Martial Arts Hi, I watched Tyson v Ruddock and he was waiting for Ruddock to throw his hook/uppercut and then dodging and was caught a number of times whereas when he was trained by Rooney his head moved constantly and he countered like how you stated here, great stuff.

I prefer to bend the waist less on the slipping, and turning my hips a bit more (so, on the end, the head moves the same) My personal preference : )

Indeed, Shinwoo K, it is good to develop your own personal style, and there are many possible variants for each technique. The important thing is that you understand the basic principles of effectiveness, and that you are able to apply the technique successfully against a resisting partner. Keep up the good work! - Patrick

Thanks for the feedback, james. Indeed, it is good to extend one's arm for maximum reach, but we want to avoid hyper-extension of the elbow joint to prevent injury. - Patrick

So true, Awakened Sleeper. We recommend going slow to start, to really understand the movement, then progressively faster, and in more realistic application training.

This is all taught in boxing, minus, the kicks and take downs. Too bad they didn't teach any of this in karate. I'm a black belt and never learned any of this in my karate class.
