This is a very good tutorial. Most other tutorials I have found do not put enough emphasis on the grip. It is by far the most important factor in my opinion to understand once you have the base strength level for the move. Props

Just watched this. Very informative but I’m still stuck on one part, the TRANSITION part. Basically, I can pull myself up using a false grip, but where I’m stuck is how to “flick” both elbows up to complete the movement. I can easily do normal muscle ups without thinking about the elbows getting over the bar, but it appears I just can’t fathom how it’s done on a slow and controlled MU. Is it my tricep strength is lacking or what is it? Appreciate an explanation, thanks man.

One thing that helps me a lot is really talking the elbows in when doing the transition. I tuck them in as tightly as possible. Makes all the difference

Are there any prerequisites before learning slow muscleup Ashton? Regular muscle ups,ring muscle ups,a number of strict pullups etc? Or the only thing needed is the wrist/forearm strength to hold a pseudo false grip/overgrip?
@AshtonFitness4 жыл бұрын
Hey AmbivalentEnemy :D. Yes, I'd recommend that you get comfortable with muscle ups before attempting this. I can only do about 4 muscle ups, so you don't need to be able to do that many. However, they need to be good form muscle ups and you need to be comfortable doing them. You can't do this if you've JUST learned the muscle up. Gotta strengthen it and let it marinate first :D. I probably should have been clearer about this in the tutorial. Next tutorial I make, I'll be clearer about the prerequisites. Hope that helped!

@chopwoodcarrywater495312 жыл бұрын
can you use a pseudo-false grip doing the negative transition portion or will the regular false grip translate when attempting the pseudo false grip muscle up? I came close to a pseudo-false grip muscle up today and I couldn't get my elbows and chest over the bar to save my life. I did a pull day yesterday so maybe I'll have better luck when I try fresh.
@emafrancisco18082 жыл бұрын
I think you can, if you have strength enough to control the transition part of the negative muscle up, i have not the strength yet and in that moment i fall faster, putting much tension on my wrists when i reach the bottom, but if you can do it slowly i think is ok
@sgproductions8054 жыл бұрын
My bar is really thick at the park it feels alot diffrent than my doorway bar, And the pseudo overhand grip I tried it once and it felt very discomforting maybe I should try it again and experiment with the position now that I can see what the hand is supposed to look like. Question do you press your fingers into the bar?
@AshtonFitness4 жыл бұрын
It will definitely be harder on a thicker bar. My suggestion is avoid anything that causes discomfort. Yes, I personally press my fingers into the bar a little bit when I'm using the pseudo false grip.
