I read an article a couple of years ago about how the state of Mississippi had started allowing smoking in prisons again and were selling cigarettes and dip on commissary. Their logic was that it eliminated the tobacco black market and got rid of a lot of extortion and other crimes attached to bringing in tobacco. Also, the money they made off of tobacco can go right back in to the facility. Makes sense to me.
@kristinehansen. Жыл бұрын
Makes sense to me too. People are going to get tobacco one way or another.
@Totes_ma_Goat Жыл бұрын
Yeah, they can smoke again but only in certain areas. Like inmates are going to follow the rules? But they can dip or vape too. I think they should allow smoking in all states because it would lower some of the crimes inside prisons.

The thing about addiction is that you're already locked up even if you're not in prison. You will violate your own rights in the name of a substance more than the worst US prison ever could. For a lot of junkies, prison is a vacation. It's waaaay easier than active addiction.

Lmao yea I lived with two indoor smokers and everything would get yellow and sticky🤢 one of them sent me chocolate, that I love, and even with airing out the package it actually fucking tasted like cigarette smoke😭😭 and I'm not a smoker apart from having a joint here and there outdoors. Dry herb vape for medical cannabis outside (bc I have a dog) but I'd love if we had patches and gel pens in our program; there aren't many consumption choices unfortunately

Here in WA, if you had no money on your books you could buy a small selection of hygeine items from the Indigent section and they'd just add the cost to your debt when you released. It sucks, but at least you didn't have to struggle to get some basic needs met. Absolutely spot on with the Us vs Them part.

I gave up smoking for 11 months, and went to a party, and after a few drinks, and the smell of smoke on people's breath, I caved. I feel like isolation is the key to giving up. I wouldn't go to prison, but I think it's an opportunity.
@everleighxoxox Жыл бұрын
Not isolation, that’s not healthy lol. People need socialization. The key is figuring out the root cause behind the smoking (or drinking or getting high). You’re getting triggered and are unable to control your urges, which makes you very susceptible to a lot of bad things.

Once in county jail (before we got commissary, this was in 2011 in a small town) your family got to drop off white tees, socks, undies, hygiene items in clear bottles, etc & a girl had her fiancé who was a m-cook drop off soaked and dried socks off to her (well he didn’t, but one of his dumb runners did). The whole unit chewed on pieces of those socks, and were all hiiiigh as clouds. We were in an open 16 people cell even tho there was probably 35 girls in there at all times… & it was SO funny watching as they called for trays and no one went to get it that morning (everyone was awake, only like 3 people got trays). The rest were too geeked and paranoid to go up to the bean-hole (the little hole that trays slide thru) not to mention they definitely weren’t hungry.

But anyway, I'm quit now but i snoked when i was there as well as detox/rehabs and while everyone was sucking on nicotine patches (GROSS) i was just chillen... idk. Interesting video. although to me tobacco shouldn't be allowed in prison. obviously same thing with drugs even more so. I know that those rules are hard to enforce but they should be enforced and those who sell drugs quite frankly should be punished for it. and that includes guards. Tobacco is not that big of a deal but it still should not be allowed and prisoners should be encouraged to quit like given a patch or something of that notion.
