we got my dog when she was a puppy. but it was during covid so she never got to socialize much. today she started a fight with another dog and i didnt want that to happen again so i looked at videos and this worked perfectly. thank youu

Been going through your podcasts and videos - I adopted a 2y/o rescue who had previously been a backyard dog so everything is new, sometimes scary, sometimes too exciting! 2.5 months in and every day we’re both learning something new!

@@helenr4300 So sorry to hear that! A LOT has happened since I posted that comment - the biggest things were getting a few medical diagnoses' for my dog and beginning treatment (allergies, thyroid, and generalized anxiety), finding appropriate "safe" outlets for her both to exercise and relax, and continuing to educate myself on all of this. There's still a lot we're working on. She reacted to a dog that surprised us on our morning walk, but yesterday we walked peacefully about 12ft behind another dog on the park path - it's not all or nothing for sure. It's really easy to get overwhelmed when your dog is reactive, so take care of yourself and play the long game!!

Hi. I've just come across your video, and have now subscribed. I have a 2 year old female who I've had since she was weeks old. In the beginning she was very social and I could take her anywhere. However, due to a 2nd lockdown which in turn saw me unable to work for quite some time and trying to save money wherever possible, I stopped going to town for coffees etc. I live on a Finca on Tenerife in the Canary Islands. Out home is quite remote, other than a few neighbouring houses. Now, my dog barks at anyone and everyone that comes near the house. Even neighbours just walking by. I took her to my work recently, on my day off. I'd taken her to the beach which she loves, and we passed numerous people on the beach and she was absolutely fine, but while at my work, when my coworker came near to speak to me while I was sitting at a table drinking my coffee, my dog went crazy! Barking aggressively at him. It seems that she's fine with people in general who are going about their own business, but anyone who comes near us creates a totally different story. It's as if she is very protective of me and our home even though this has never been encouraged. It may sound crazy but it's as if she has learned this behaviour from a dog who lived on the neighbouring farm 😆. They used to pass time together over the boundary fence.

Thank you for sharing! My dog was perfectly fine with other dogs but she has been traumatized. we were on a walk and another dog bit me, she didn’t know what to do and now she’s very bad with socializing.

Hmmm. This sounds like a great place to start. My girl only reacts to other dogs when they get to close. This can be 5' or sometimes 10. When they come around corners.

I have a year and a half old Anatolian that I "mildy" socialized with a few of the other local farm dogs. However, I notice that he tries to rip through the walls of my Subaru every time he see's another large dog as we are driving down the street. It's more than a little disturbing, and I realize I have been ignorant in my training of him. This is very helpful for correcting myself as well as my dog. I will have to adapt to your instructions as this breed is almost 100% immune to treats. He does love praise though, and that will have to do. Thanks for posting all this good information. I will definitely subscribe and see what else I can learn from you.

Can I ask, during the "run experiments" stage, when you suggest meeting someone (in your example a man with sunglasses) do you mention walking past the person, acknowledging the person as you walk past, stop and chatting with the person etc? I'm sure that you will say all of the above but for example, I know that my dog will be fine walking past someone but if I stop and start chatting with them for more than 30 secs he'll start pulling towards them and barking (frustration from over sociability). If I had lots of friends who liked dogs I could practise but the fact is I don't and most people that I vaguely know in passing that do like dogs, usually have a dog attached to them (which makes it problematic as dogs are my dogs biggest trigger) or dislike dogs so aren't willing to undergo experimentation!

My puppy is 6 months old now and she was able to go to her new home in December. She never got out much, due to it being too cold or too snowy to go out, so now she barks when she sees people. How is your dog now with people?

I need help with my 2 year old Aussie and 2 year old daughter I just got her a 4 days ago she gets along with my other dog but not so much my daughter she has niped her face she is very scared of her how do I break this behavior I have her in a crate when my daughter is out and about I let her watch my daughter and Bella together I am gonna get a muzzle and try to work that way she has never been socialized with children I really want this to work

It is never too late! (Adopted 10 year old littermates.) Go slow, wait to work on socialization until she's used to her new environment and people, stick to a clear routine, and ideally have a friend with a dog-friendly dog practice slow introductions. It is worth going at a glacial pace, because it is much, much, much easier to prevent issues than it is to correct them. CHIENMAG
