I have to agree a little "stress" ( something new every day but with a routine) is a character builder over time to socialize in the home. Yeah and you have given them a zone of their own. Well said. Food for thought. We all learn something new everyday. My Vivariums once twice a year a move things around. Whats the story of the wild one to the left? Beautiful Monitors! How many you have now 2 pairs? Thank you. ps he seems unfazed back in looking around while you are chatting moving around.

Awesome! Awesome to hear how you’ve seen them become so tame. Looks like a baby dinosaur 🦖 😅💚🦎

I agree, how is an animal/reptile/someone going to get over something if they don't experience it. I also agree with your monitors being able to see you in their cage, my false water cobra was the same way. Her personality and her feeding response has changed once I moved her to a cage with a clear front, she knows when I come home and wait's for me to come say hi.

yeah these are my grow up cages. they aren't very big. my adult enclosures are 6 x 4 x 2. and even those people hate me for. so I just ignore people now, I know I take good care of my animals and that's what is important

Have younhqd success brweding these .....I think you are doing a great job. I'd be interested in working with someone like you to get one or a pair I have worked with arboreal species snakes and I work boas constrictors for over 15 years. 7 years I have wnated to work with these. Didn't wanna rush into qnd make sure I had the time. Snakes dont need as much attention or interaction. But I am definitely readybto go in this qnd be a care giver for a pair or even one.

I haven't produced any babies of these yet, but there are several breeders who have! if you're on facebook, you should join the tree monitors group, there are a lot of breeders on there having great success!

Do you have any updated videos of him? Is he a lot more tame now? What methods did you use?

@@ysp.96 I can do an update video for sure. Lots of news surrounding him! Short version, he's MUCH better with handling now

@@TheReptileBarn I would love to see that. How long did it take for him to be comfortable with handling/contact?

@@ysp.96 once I started using food to tempt him out on his own, a couple months. The key was not grabbing him. Letting him climb to me. Even if I had to sit there for 30 minutes waiting. Grabbing him set me back weeks of progress

@@TheReptileBarn sounds awesome. How soon did you start doing all that after receiving him?

@@ysp.96 kind of in two phases. We did it a lot as a baby. And he did really well. But we got busy and stopped prioritizing socialization, and didn't pick it up again until he was an adult

Do you think they can be kept in a 4x2x2 chameleon cage if you handle them a lot? I don't want to take up too much space.
@TheReptileBarn3 жыл бұрын
So I keep my juveniles in 4x2x2 cages. But the adults just need more space. They love to run and jump, they love to explore, they are extremely active. The minimum I usually see is 2x4 feet width and length, with 6 feet of height.

@@TheReptileBarn Thank you for the information.
@TheReptileBarn3 жыл бұрын
@@sebastianortiz1841 as far as outdoors, the short answer is yes, natural sunlight is excellent! Better than any lights we could use indoors. just have to make sure the temperatures still stay within their natural range. And California isn't nearly as humid as their natural environment either, so if you had them in some sort of outdoor set up to soak up some sun for a few hours, be careful they don't dry out. as far as living outdoors full time, I don't know of anywhere in California it would be possible. A lot of people in southern florida keep their monitors outdoors most of the year, but even there it gets too cold occasionally and they have to bring them inside

Dude these freaking people who are telling you this shit don't have a clue but if you have a KZbin channel you just have to put up with the drama.

haha that is very true. at some level, if you want to put content out into the world for other people, on any platform, you just have to put up with some things

Are they wild caught animal's or did you find a breeder in the United states? I don't think that they have any breeder's of that species here. I found a pair of them at backwater reptiles and they were 1799. a pair. They have Asian water monitors at the same place, backwater reptiles and they are 169. And I know they are wild caught and I will have to do a fecal test on him because they do have parasites.
@TheReptileBarn3 жыл бұрын
I have wild caught and captive bred. There are very few breeders in the US, it's true. But there are a few. There is a tree monitor group on facebook that is very active, the admin, Matthew Cossman, is extremely knowledgeable and does a good amount of breeding. There's a few others on there as well.
@larrylaird35763 жыл бұрын
I've watched lots of Kevin mccurlys videos from nerds and his technique is amazing and that's why I think I can get a Asian water monitor wild caught and tame him. I can't afford Kevin's prices and I'm sure you checked his prices for monitors.
@TheReptileBarn3 жыл бұрын
Yes, Kevin is absolutely a legend when it comes to his socialization techniques. Haha and his prices are legendary as well.
