We've played Spain in college at the end of our final exam. Our improvisations is the most emotional thing that we did and one of the most emotional thing what I heard ever. I wish to remaster it's recording in studio with our current skills.

That's a deceptively simple song! Never can make it sound right.

Often with "my favorite things", the problem is the rhythms instead of the notes. Because its in 3, accents are off compared to the more common 4/4 improv. In terms of notes, pentatonics that fit with each chord work great for me, and it adds color when the pentatonic shifts slightly out of key.

Really great video Jeff. Really well shot, super clear explanations of the harmony and as usual awesome keyboard graphics. (I think maybe there was a typo with the F#7 diminished scale which was a half-whole but said whole-half?) Good stuff. 👍🏻

How about doing everything in D major except for the C#7 altered (D melodic minor) and the B7 (HTWT)? On the F#7 after the initial G major I put in an extra a# to the F# phrygian. That's possible because of the minor major ambiguity of the 3rd mode (in this case D major, the 3rd mode is F# phrygian).

Sorry, my teacher has taught me that rubbing notes against the third and the seventh isn’t very proper. Is there some sort of exception to this rule concerning your F#7? I only have been doing jazz for a couple of years so forgive any ignorance on my part.
