The Yamaha RX100 was the go-to bike for two-wheeler enthusiasts back in the 80’s and early-90s. Back then, the Yamaha RX100 not only set a benchmark for two-stroke motorcycles but also single-handedly changed people’s perspective towards motorcycling.
The Yamaha RX100 was launched in November 1985 and the company kept manufacturing it until March 1996. The government’s decision to pull the plug on all two-stroke motorcycles ended of the Yamaha RX100's reign in India. But the success story carries on even today
The RX100 was the result of Yamaha going back to the drawing room after the RD350 failed to light up the market. But even Yamaha couldn’t have anticipated the outcome of their radical approach, making the Yamaha RX100 the legend it is today. The best example of this is that enthusiasts are still willing to handover hefty amounts of money in order to own a well-maintained example of the RX100.
The Yamaha RX100 was powered by an air-cooled, 98cc, single-cylinder, two-stroke motor that produced 11PS @ 7500rpm. Power was sent to the rear wheel via a 4-speed gearbox. The company also claimed a 0-60kmph time of 7.5 seconds. Furthermore, the Yamaha RX100 was not only reliable but affordable as well, making it accessible to many. The performance and reliability factor made it a winner in the eyes of enthusiasts. In fact, the Yamaha RX100 became one of India’s best-selling two-stroke machines, until it was replaced with the RX-G.
The part that makes us spring with joy are the rumours of Yamaha reviving the RX100, but with a four-stroke engine instead. However, our excitement levels have dimmed down as there has been no official confirmation from Yamaha as of yet. So, till we get a solid confirmation on its comeback, we can only wait and anticipate that the RX100 will once again revolutionise the Indian two-wheeler commuter segment. TVS Victor now competes with Yamaha RX.

Engine noise identification : 1. clutch well/basket play : Start the bike in neutral and see if there is sound. If it goes away after pressing the clutch lever, and comes back when leaving the clutch, then it is clutch well problem. solution : Replace or repair clutch basket(katora) 2. piston slap sound : In this, block will be too worn out and because of that, piston will become loose fit in the block. You have to open the head, block and piston. Try to fit the piston in removed block and see if it's a loose fit. Also, you can do compression test. If it is less than 120 psi, then maybe this is the problem. With more revs, this sound will also become more louder and higher frequency solution : rebore and new piston 3. Piston ring sound : In this problem, the piston ring will be broken Will sound like bangles or choodi. Ringing type sound will come. Do compression test like before. Solution : new ring set 4. pieces inside engine (Rare) : Have to open the engine and check 4. Crank sound (most common) : If all the above is not there, then this might be the problem. This happens because the crank bearing gets damaged and there is vertical play in the crankshaft. This can happen if : a). You use less 2T oil b). Your oil pump failed c). You are running lean mixture from long time d). You drive at very low rpm and high gear Solution : Open crank bearing and replace. Connecting rod set is available in market. And give slightly rich mixture.

*5 : crank bearing sound It is not very critical problem. RX-135 has slight play and little sound will come even with normal engine. It is only noticeable at idle speed and less noticeable at higher rpm.

One thing I noticed about clutch related problem is if you put the bike in main stand and put in 1st gear and hold the clutch the rear wheel turns even when u hold the clutch (this is normal happens in every bike). If u stop the tyre by ur foot and if the engine sound changes that means your clutch is not disengaging fully. The load that your applying to stop the tyre from turning is also going to the engine. This problem is there in my rx I have to set the engaging and disengaging of the clutch properly.

Sometimes, an issue with the reed valve also causes noise. I had that issue solved after changing the reed valve on my RXZ.

My Rx100 also gives similar noise at idle rpm and vanishes once clutch pressed or rpm increased. Rafique bhai mera bhi clutch ka kaam karne wale hai jaldi he.
