City Planner Plays introduced a tactic to solving transit passenger problems in a recent video: By adding up the total number of waiting passengers at each stop and then either adding up the current total capacity of your busses or by dividing by the capacity of your bus / metro etc. This allows you to manage budgeting the transport system and reduces unwanted traffic. You can then adjust the model and number of vehicles on the road as and when demand increases.
@capedkat2 жыл бұрын
I remember that. And I also remember replying he forgot to include the people that were on the bus, so I kind of doubted this theory to be fail-safe
@keeneboy77002 жыл бұрын
Usually I look at how many total are waiting then divide by capacity. If there's say 600 people total waiting at stops on the line and I'm using a 60 capacity bus, I'll add 10 buses. It generally works ok, I can always tweak it as necessary.
@stevefrink48422 жыл бұрын
If more passengers are arriving at a station than leaving you back up. The next station sees nothing but full busses and backs up too, and on and on. Aim to meet the needs of that busiest stop.

I have learned a lot from your videos. In my current build my trams and metro are getting insane use now and my traffic extremely visibly got WAY better. I have to say that hubs, multiplatform stations, and having crossovers between transit methods like bus-metro and train-metro and such. On thing that worked really well was building the muiltiplatform sunken metro hub right in the middle of the densest part of the city with direct lines to the train station, air port and inter city bus terminals and then a web of metro and trams all over town. Took days to build but it's awesome! And YOU Biffa, your videos inspired it.

Hey Biffa, I'm loving the videos! I have an idea for traffic at the Wold Transit Center. If you reverse the direction of the one-way loop, it will make it so that buses that are pulling out of the stops aren't blocked by buses trying to get into the stops. Reversing the direction of the loop would create the problem of vehicles blocking eachother at the beginning of the loop, but that feels more fixable.

You could add pedestrian paths through some of the fields near the village so the citizens can go for a countryside walk. You could then expand on this and create a big rural walking network (from the village to the farm and then onto the shopping centre and other areas) - would be interesting to see how far the citizens would go!

Check your nodes near the bus station. There might be an extra node and piece of road connected that's causing the cars as well as the buses to pull in and out because they're following that short stub of a road there. I've seen that before when I had a very short twisted piece of road. My passenger vehicles that were using that stretch did some really funny squirrelly moves before proceeding along their journey as if nothing happened.
@dmore2 жыл бұрын
Your new council estate is one of your best yet! ❤ BUT… it’s missing at least one local pub and a corner shop!! I also think your public transport hierarchy could be improved. That huge bus line should really be a metro or train route, with busses to take users from main hubs into your estates. Trains > Metro > Busses - just like road hierarchy, it can make things function much more smoothly!

Absolutely love this series! So glad it's back 🙏🏼 In the interest of realism, I live in a village of almost twice the size and having a secondary school in a village as small as High Bickie doesn't make that much sense. The Parish council wouldn't be able to raise the funds to build or maintain a secondary school. Also, having a lower land value for the new council estate makes sense! #ProAffordableHousing

Biffa, you gotta add Transportation hierarchy to the road hierarchy strategy. Metro aleady links the two bus stations, no need for a bus line to do the same... (or at least check out that it does)... Bus hibs are for local use. Metro links hubs on medium distances and trains do so on longer distances. You bus lines are way too long and not even stopping at the same stops on both sides.

Hey Biffa - did you see that most of the people waiting at the Station actually left the bus after one stop? The Buses were rather empty all other stops? Maybe it would help to find out where all these passengers actually wanted to go to and build a dedicated line for that?

I think it would benefit you to switch the one way direction of the road that the bus terminal is on. That way the buses dont have to join the cue of buses that are waiting to enter the terminal, when they have already filled up and left the terminal. So the buses enter the terminal and leave the terminal in the same direction rather than having to turnaround
@aveekbh2 жыл бұрын
Or even make that a bus-only road (or have the right-hand lanes bus-only).
@finnegandonahue29882 жыл бұрын
He'd have to unlock the roads hidden in the terminal using network multitool because it's left-hand traffic, so just reversing the outer loop would mean traffic has to cross over itself at the entry/exit of the loop...

Hi ... 30:32 I would interprete the numbers like this ... There is one busy stop and people travel to the next stop - after that the busses are mainly empty. Passengers seem to prefer a different route to travel in the opposite direction and probably produce asymmetric utilization pattern on other lines. Maybe, a separate bus line just going back and forth between these two stops would 1. be an alternative to increasing the number of vehicles on this line and 2. would be an approquiate option for the way back. 31:30 - 32:00 Here is another aspect ... the route is connecting 4 stops spread over the map. I'd rather use busses to give everyone access to the rail and metro network - with a transfer opportunity there people can travel their medium and long distances. That means replacing the line with rather local services with one exception: if you follow the camera movement at 31:50 there is no rail connection between Eggbuckland Park Station and Upperteahampton Hub. An express shuttle bus could just close that little gap in your network going back and forth but also test the demand for a potential metro or rail extension. The more localized busses are, the better the metro coverage has to be. Maybe you could reconsider the 6:11 decision against an infill station. And 7:08 I would not cross two metro lines without creating a transfer opportunity - a university campus would not be a bad location for a transfer station. Imagine you lived near your new parallel track metro station and want to visit Winchmore Botanical Gardens ...

If you add a bus only pedestrian road from your riverside road into the primary bus hub and a busway to the river from the main road around Brampton Heights, then your orange line to High Bikie (HB) can bypass your *main* highway interchange and *main* road into the town - allowing it to run better. BUS BYPASS FTW! Also, you could add a path from your HB train station to the high school as students will travel from across the entire city if there are spaces. You could also add paths from the main road to your sprawling shops near the rail viaduct.

Hey Biffa, just a question and observation. Where you have all your busses coming in to pick up passengers you have a one way road with bus/taxi lane which is great but it doesn't do you any good if the bus/taxi lane is on the outside edge, furthest from the bus station. So, what if you turned the road and made the one way road go the other way so that the busses and taxis can use that lane to get into the bus station and not get in the way of the cars?

I know it will be a pain in the backside, but as I agued earlier is as wel: I think you should redraw all of your transit line. It has become a bit of mess. Also I think the hierarchy is off. It would be better to have busses transfer people brom the bus hubs into the nearby neighborhoods and let metro’s or trains form one side of the city to the other. And one thing I’ll keep saying. It would be so annoying if you have to transfer at the metros so much as now; why not make continues line? Anyway I’m deeply emotional invested in this city and once again loved this built!

IMHO, Biffa, that Kett to Egg line is WAY too long. When i have transit from suburb to suburb at that distance and volume of passengers i have found that buses are just not efficient because they run into traffic problems. I'd shorten the bus loop and throw in a train or metro.
