Godspeed to the pedestrian that falls into the lake. That's quite a cliff/drop off and there's no way out! You could always raise the lake floor in several spots and create a bog or wetlands area. Or maybe a separate area dedicated to shallow wetlands? Looks really good with tons of grasses! Looking forward to you making Mile Oak Forest THE place to be since it has a low appeal currently. Cheers!

Bit of a shame the lake ends at the viaduct, anyway
@neeag41122 жыл бұрын
The viaduct would be a spectacular backdrop. Plop a few colored lights underneath and every picture taken during a festival would automatically be recognized. ... Also the lake could have been a redeveloped open pit mine as it is so steep. A good back story also contributes to a sense of place

So funny one, I used to work for HS2 (I would like to point out I no longer do) however the choice for a nature reserve especially with a railway line running through it is amusingly very very similar to a stretch of that line between London M25 and Great Missenden, where the track flies over some lakes on a specially designed bridge and the area around is a nature reserve that is having millions put into it, just thought it was a rather satisfying decision there!

One thing the game seemed to lack was a reason for your city to exist in the first place. It's hard to create a sense of place if you just start off on an empty plot of land and start zoning residential areas with no real motive relative to the in-game world. One way to fix that would be to have more interconnectivity with your neighboring cities. For example, if your city borders an industrial sector, then your starting incoming residents will be blue-collar workers that will commute to the industrial sector for work. If your city borders a major commercial city, then your starting incoming residents will be middle-class white-collars that will commute to the other city for work. If your city is in the nation's breadbasket, your starting incoming residents will most likely be farmers looking to set up their own farms. How you choose to further develop your city will be up to you, or how the demand/needs of other cities change overtime. This is a good way to give your city some actual history. Also, it's sort of disheartening when you spend hours/days/weeks working on a beautiful park in your city, only for the cims to literally not care about any of it and just walk right through them. Sure it may look nice in a meta sense, I personally, I wish the cims had at least some interaction with your decorations. Maybe placing lamps and street lights make the surrounding areas safer for cims to walk through at night. Plants and trees should raise the beauty of the surrounding areas, thus making it more attractive to nature tourists.

3:26 You picked a perfect place for a Greenbelt. A Green/Park/Reserve type of area that runs along roads, railways, via/aqueducts with walking and cycling paths running throughout. With tunnels and bridges connecting multiple parks and reserves together continuing the Greenbelt. IRL these 'Greenbelts connecting through your city creates highways for pedestrians, cyclists and animals. In Skylines, perhaps just pedestrians and cyclists.

You could use a bus only road as a bus shortcut out of your new park entry area - which would save you vehicles (£££). You could also use the Modular Bus Station (Workshop) or Compact Bus Station (P&P-DLC). The Natural Cave System (Workshop) and Bouldering (PL-DLC) would go well with your rock formations. In these last two episodes your zoning hasn't been what you wanted but you could have used the Zoning Adjuster Mod to remove the zoning on the main roads (which you didn't want) to get large zones on the side roads (which you did want).

This is very nice! I think this park area would be a good place to sink the surrounding roads down a bit so that you can do some lower, more pedestrian-friendly bridges and also have the noise diminished a bit. You could do some landscaping by the roads to make them a more pleasant place to drive through as well, rather than a walled-in type of sunken road.

Cracking little addition to Blightea, Biffa! Just a suggestion, but you mentioned the fishing on that lake a few times, and having seen the cinematic flyover at the end, i would definitely raise the water level. If you're fishing you need to be able to net the fish and those banks are far too deep to be able to do that. Even just feeding the ducks and swans (and seagulls) would be a more enjoyable experience if the water was higher... all about the detail!

I wonder, some neighborhoods (like the one on elevated ground with the road much lower) have a lot of the same rowhouses and packed very tightly. Is this for realism or efficiency? With these parks and leisure areas you do the opposite, spend lots of space on happiness without any financial benefit. Would it be hard to mix the two? Make a neighborhood more cheerful by integrating a park and other fun zones into? I'm thinking of a comb shape, where you have all the rows of houses with access from one side, and have a mirroring comb with long stretches of park or other things alternating the house rows. Normally many long streets connecting to one collector road would be a problem, but with a pedestrian zone you don't have that problem! You can make the teeth of the comb more interesting by giving them an artful wobble, like a bunch of sea plants in a current. In addition you can alternate streets with mixed commercial zones in between. Maybe in another area you could alternate farming or forestry strips with either housing or parks. Eventually even business districts could be one side of the comb. This could be an idea for a future video. Starting with many small long main road villages, evolve into a long stretched city that meanders all around the map. The center string of this city would then be one main artery and railroad combo with lots of commercial and services. Later a metro to replace busses for the perfect walkable metropolitan area.

@brendotheoffendo2 жыл бұрын
With how deep and steep the sides are in that lake, the hole had to be a working quarry at one stage. It makes sense with a huge stone viaduct running alongside it. The lake was once a quarry to build the viaduct. Now the whole quarry has been flooded and the area restored with parklands. Could add some old abandoned mining equipment and old mining buildings, possibly be changed to commercial for decoration.

Solve two bird with one stone; instead of having no entrance to the nature reserve and a high bridge over the motorway - just bury a section of motorway under a land feature stretching out from St Giles West towards the rail line. Put the nature reserve entrance above that, and a path going 'down the hill' instead of a huge bridge.
