Dude...What a performance! It's quite unbelievable just how well you can capture this in a bedroom setting. It's impossible to tell that it wasn't recorded in a studio. Also, some people are going to hate me for saying this, but I preferred this to the original. Your singers tone was so beautiful; I preferred him to Tom Yorke. As well, as soon as he started singing I said in my head "I've heard a voice VERY similar to this before". I closed my eyes and within 10 seconds I knew who it was. It was a band that I haven't listened to for over 10 years...'My Morning Jacket'. He sounds so similar to the lead singer Jim James.

all three of you are absolute top-tier musicians, lads. fact. in fact this song is a kind of a “regular job” for me, ‘cause every several years i decide to cover it with a different approach - it may be close to the original production/instrumentation/style-wise, it may be a complete reimagination all together with no guitars and just keyboards and stuff. it’s actually has so much meaningful musical basis on a compositional level that throughout the years it never gets boring to approach it from different angles. that said, i had my fair bit of struggle with the guitar work during my “close to the original” approach and know exactly how challenging it is, despite overall perceived lightweight sorta vibe to it. my man, you did absolutely great, had a ton of pleasure listening to it. vocals are so well executed as well - Thom’s spirit fully embodied in this performance. i caught myself wanting to have a listen to the raw vox recording when you cut between dry and wet mix. i feel like the dry vocal signal would perfectly fit into the mixed version of the instrumentation. but it’s just a subjective hypothesis. in general, either way - you did a fucking great job and i will certainly come back here to take a listen again and *not just once, not just twice* _(see what i did there, right lool?)_ for sure as well. 🙌🏼

Great video! Nice breakdown of the song and performances overall! On the tuning of the guitars, usually that will resolve with the overtops of the rest of the tune, so auto tune is probably not need. Vocal sound was good, but the reverb wasn’t right. Sounds to me like it’s a long tail plate on an aux with the send going prefader to get that ghosting thing. Dunno, just how I heard it. I felt like the biggest difference between your track and theirs was the overall sense of space. Yours sounded “smaller.” Maybe that’s just a case of spaces and gear, but something to think about for the next breakdown. Really ambitious video and I’m glad to see someone making stuff like this and not just gear reviews.
@AudioHaze Жыл бұрын
Glad you liked it! For more the biggest difference was that my guitars were brighter, maybe a bit wider, which perhaps didn't give enough room for the vocals to truly sit atop of it with enough space. Ironically could have made the mix feel a bit smaller because of that. When I darkened the guitars though I just felt like we lost a lot of that sweet-high end that makes the guitars sound nice. So it was a bit of a balancing act :) glad you enjoyed!
