I have a question. Everyone says not play bass through a guitar amp. They say it will damage the guitar amp speaker. I don't see how that would be possible. Does pitching it up an octave eliminate the possibility of ruining the guitar speaker?
@rickrussie5 жыл бұрын
It really depends on the bass and the amp. You can ruin an amp with too much low end, but if you bring the bass up an octave, it’s unlikely to be damaging.

Splitting with a volume pedal without a splitter kills your tone. JHS mods those Ernie Ball volume pedals using the guts from the buffered splitter they sell normally.

True. My volume pedal is an MVP, which has a buffer. Although the tone loss you’d notice in this setup would be pretty minimal.

In addition to this you could add a boss ps 6 or a ehx pitchfork or some other pitch shifter and set it to add a fifth. then you'll get power chords for the guitar part. :)
@rickrussie6 жыл бұрын
Sure. Or on the M9 you could add a second patch with the 5ths.
@facedowngaming6 жыл бұрын
Yeah the M9 handles both ends rather just a single Pitchfork would only give you one signal to feed through the output. Although buying two Pitchforks can save you some real estate on your board compared to the size of an M9.

I’m confused. I was always told that playing a bass through a guitar amp would balls the amps speaker up. Is the octave pedal preventing this?
@rickrussie6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, if you use the octave pedal whenever you are sending signal to the guitar amp, you'll be fine. It's the low frequencies that would blow a guitar amp speaker.
@camalan56956 жыл бұрын
Nice one! Thanks for the advice
@RipCityBassWorks6 жыл бұрын
Will Hurrell Yes, it's shifting the frequencies. Also some guitar amp speakers can take a bass just fine: vintage Peavey and Crate are good examples.
