Adding polyfill to a speaker is a well known tried and true hack to extend lows. The risk is that it increases the chances of your coil burning out from the decreased ventilation. But slowing down air flow is definitely a scientific method to stabilizing low frequency pulses. Apple has a patent on using different gas sealed compartments exploiting the density of the gas between two compartments.

You better using recycled clothes as a filler or wool, another way to reduce the Bass by two to four octaves is fix a board in front of the driver half an inch MDF with some standoffs where the screws going to the speaker that go into the cabinet try and allow about an inch gap between the surround and the bored, if you can get some bitumen pads that they use in cars and stick a third of the size of the driver in the middle of the bored will help . Keep the board Square you don't need to make it round with a bit of overlap about quarter of an inch this gives you a similar effect to a radiator it can be used in conjunction with a radiator as well

That's not a good way to polyfil a speaker, especially using a pillow polyfil, since the fibers are not interwoven into a sheet, he stands the risk of fiber strands flying within the speaker cabinet, then making it's way into the speakers voice coil, or magnetic shaft clogging the path of the coils travel.
