I inherited my late Dad’s Black Mercedes B Class about 18 months ago. The paintwork was a mess from him drying it with a dirty cloth without washing it before sticking it in the garage, as well using the local scratch & shine when it was dirty! I gave up telling him otherwise. I’ve since washed & polished out the swirls & defects and it’s a shame he never got to see it looking how it does but then he’s probably up there laughing at how much time I have to spend keeping it looking good. Thanks Dad! 🙏🏾😀

Ah yes the old "thanks.....I guess?" I absolutely love getting a black car gleaming, they look superb...and then, very quickly, they don't. I've been there and done that myself on a personal car, never again! I had a gun metal MK1 Volvo C70 convertible a while ago and I loved that car, so easy to keep clean!

@@SuperchargedLlama I had a mineral Grey 320D before the Merc, a great colour that hides the dirt better than black but gives you deep shades & contrasts when you’ve polished. In short, I’m getting another BMW ASAP. (They drive way better too )

@@BarryCoombs1 this GLC is surprisingly crashy over big bumps. Supposedly resolved with the new one, but they don't do it in anything other than AMG Line trim, so I won't be getting one. X3 or XC60 next time round I suspect, especially as I want a light interior.

Great video with lots of top tips but I will say that I always opt for 'black pack' exterior trims as I know they will corrode so it's easier to touch them up with a black pen than treating a chrome finish.

Such a good video. My car is black and exactly like you say it's such a pain. My wife's is white and a joy as you can't see many defects yet she has black diamond cut alloys. She had the idea of rubber mats when she first got it 4 years ago and I copied. So easy like you say, APC, brush pressure washer and like new.

I'm really glad you enjoyed the video AND have similar experiences. Having owned a black car in the past I will never do it again, but I've also had gun metal and that worked alright...I also seem to do a lot of gun metal Mercs too and generally haven't had an issues doing them in the sun.

One thing is mudflaps. My new Mazda cx60 does not come with mudflaps and you can not buy them. It sends me insane and the first car in my 57 years I don’t have mudflaps A very interesting video. Love it. James
@SuperchargedLlama5 ай бұрын
This is a fantastic point to make, so few cars even have them as an option these days and it's amazing. Sure, they don't look pretty, but they do a fundamental job! Tesla's would greatly benefit from them, have you ever seen one that doesn't have a mucky bum?
@jamesfoote89165 ай бұрын
True very true. On my Jaguar the mudflaps are not that big and I don’t mind how they look. Nothing worst than cleaning the car doing the black trim a quite trip to the shop and mud in on the trim and not blocked by the mudflaps. I have both rubber and carpet mats for the cx60 first time I have bought rubber mats and OMG they are amazing I can not believe how well made they are and as you say cleaning is very easy. I also have a separate heal guard that I have used for the past 15 years this protects the carpet maps and the rubber to be fair but for the love of god I can not find it for sale anywhere James

The struggle is real, isn't it? I had a black Fiesta before the GLC so I know I'm never doing that again, let alone the customer cars I clean. Just saw a black packed Rolls Royce Cullinan at the petrol station with black diamond cut wheels...and a white interior. I didn't have the heart to tell the owner how many mistakes they'd made. But in all fairness, they probably have someone to look after it (sadly not me! Well.....given everything I've said in this video, not that sad actually 😂)

Totally in agreement with rubber mats. The only things I would add, a rubber boot mat and if, like me, you have a dog I would invest in a product like Hatchbag which can be easily cleaned with apc, it is attached with velcro for easy removal and so far, 4 years later, still looks like new.

General rule anything that’s ‘cool’ when it comes to cars comprises practicality, comfort or reliability. Recently ditched my snazzy alloys and low profile tyres for something more chunky because the state of the roads these days just trashed them.

The centre nuts on the GTS wheels look like they're exactly the same as the main body of the wheel, but they aren't. They react to pretty much everything single cleaner going, by which I mean the paint comes off them. Ghastly things and they cost £300-400 each to replace. Luckily I only did one when I realised.

My biggest bugbear is brands trying to turn ugly dull family cars all faux sporty via the medium of S-Line. I could rant for ages about this. 90% cars do not need metallic paint, chrome this, alloy wheels, lowered suspension and sporty appendages. A Mokka or Juke or q3 or Karoq is not sporty and no amount of eye liner is gonna make one look nice, so don't try. And they're not bought by people who give a flying sh1t about apexes and unsprung mass. Only Citroen seems to know who it is and accepts that families want a smooth comfortable ride that doesn't make the kids sick. So........ 99% of cars should be specced 90s style with 14 inch steel wheels, 60 profile tyres in silver with moulded door strips (ala Citroen aircross) a/c, Carplay and clever Honda Magic seats. And no sunroof! Perfect family car spec! Thank me later!!!!!
@SuperchargedLlama5 ай бұрын
I am absolutely right with you there. What's maddened me is that the new GLC is only available on the AMG Line trim here (and I think only with the midnight trim), they sell what was the equivalent to mine (misleadingly named Sport, now called Avantgarde) in other parts of the world, but not the UK. So you get everything you described, and no positives. And no light interior either. To the point that our next one might end up being BMW or Volvo because they offer the light interior which we love, and you don't have to go crazy on the sporty trims.

@SuperchargedLlama5 ай бұрын
@@kamranhussain578 the Siramik is pretty good, so yeah Touch-Less will generally be okay. Don't let it dry out in the sun and you'll be fine I'd say. Caustic stuff can definitely cause issues, but again....doing it when it's hot and in direct sunlight is usually the main culprit. Although the TFR the scratch and shines use will definitely cause problems (and has, to many mercs)
