About to finish 2000p of Saim-Hann in this method (white weapons for more contrast), after painting a lot of nids with washes and contrast paint, this really helped me to appreciate (and practice) thinning paint and the value of a wet palette. 🙂

@@MediocreHobbies for me there was one big difference to many other fast painting methods: its scalable to any model. Its easy to get a good looking guardian with just slapchop for example. But then its allmost impossible to do a falcon the same way. With your way all the big flat panels are a treat to paint.

Have you tried to make same trick you do for gems for their sword blades? Cover in leadbelcher, coat with talassar blue? It should give it (I think) quite striking power sword/crystal sword look.

Yes I have thought about it. And it mite work. But I would probably go back and re highlight it with a bright silver.

@@MediocreHobbies Also, another question: have you tried to just use Mephiston Red over Blood Angel contrast for plate highlights layer and skip shading with Druchii? Blood Angel already gives shades and edge highlights so you could just mephiston red the flat plates but without shading. I just wonder what would be the end result. Btw. It depends how many is in the unit, if I have a lot to paint and the unit is large then I just glue them all on and don’t worry too much, if the gun is blocking my paint brush, it’s also going to block anyone seeing behind it too! It’s a simple glue job though if you leave it off til the end!

Great looking guardian. I do have a quick question though. i had trouble getting a smooth finish with the blood angels contrast paint like you did. did you think down the red with anything specific, or just red?
@MediocreHobbies2 жыл бұрын
No not thinned down. I find to get a smooth o coat. You should put on a lot of it. And then pull away where it’s pooling. When there is a thick coat it finds all the recesses and doesn’t leave any streaks. Does this make sense?
@M3RUL3Z2 жыл бұрын
@@MediocreHobbies yeah, that makes sense. thanks for the response! i think i just had some pooling on the flat section of their top armor which was my problem
@garysmith47422 жыл бұрын
why would you use a contrast/speed paint if you are just gonna wash it, then layer over all of it with paint?
@MediocreHobbies2 жыл бұрын
I use contrast as the quickest way to apply all the base coats to a model. It really does save so much time.
@garysmith47422 жыл бұрын
@@MediocreHobbies but you could have just based it with a regular base coat of red, washed, then highlight. anyways, they did look good. I just think it could be done without the speed paint and just use a red base coat. anyways, cheers!
@honestbenny Жыл бұрын
@@garysmith4742 I wondered the same, however when you contrast paint over flat surfeace (like plates of Aeldari/Marine armor) they get really bad pools, so you have to usually smooth it anyway with layer, which makes you already do rest of the flat layers to be consistent... sooooo, yeah. I just think he could skip washing. I think you can do contrast and then all flats/highlight plates with mephiston without wash and just wash gold parts alone to save time.
