I had to work in Brussels for several months and I really like the place, I think it's very underrated. It's one of those places that I think becomes more appealing the more time you spend there. It's not as immediately visually attractive as some cities but has a really nice vibe and when you scratch the surface, you find a vibrant and interesting city.

I have had Belgium on my list for some time to visit specifically Brussels, Bruges,Ghent and Antwerp fun trip I avoid really early flights nothing before 9am if I can.

Excellent choices but the real hidden gems are in the French speaking part of Belgium. All those places you mention are in Flanders Dutch speaking part except Brussels. It kind of depends what you are looking for but remember every foreigner wants to go to these places and that turns them into huge tourist traps. It is possible to get really good food but it is high end and very expensive. Don't expect to get the good stuff on a budget not even streetfood like waffles or the fries. . Get of the beaten track and you will find good waffles and fries for a normal price. Chocolates you do need to buy in one of those cities because the variety of choice is enourmous. But yet again if you want really good chocolate prepare to pay the price. please don't go looking for them in a supermarket, they haven't got any. Good complex beers you can find everywhere even the supermarket much cheaper than in the states no matter where you are in Belgium. Thanks for chosing my country as a destination. I am from the eastern part of Flanders or northeast Belgium called Limburg. It is not the town where I live but it is a hidden Gem too. It is called Tongeren. It is the oldest city in Belgium founded by the Romans. a part of the stone wall they build still stands today and you can visit the Gallo Roman museum with real 2000 year old stuff found here. And just like Bruges they have a medeival beguinage too. No crowds from tourists and friendly real Belgians. google it please.

Questions: why are your visits so short? It seems like you would miss quite a bit and only accomplish a passport stamp. 2. with age, I've learned to get rest before I fly & during the flight, so I can't hit the ground running upon landing. I am much older & definitely require my rest for an optimal trip.

What is up with our waffle’s, we don’t care too much about them. Most people eating it here, are tourists 😅. Our fries though .. yes French fries originated in Belgium but don’t go eat them in brussels. Come to other cities in the flanders. Just avoid brussels entirely if you can. Just park your plane there =D go enjoy our beers, fries , chocolate in cities like. Leuven, Hasselt, antwerp, bruges. 😊
