Hi Jodie - Here's a couple of things you can do to reuse the paint left on your plastic. 1. If you lay tissue paper down on the plastic and layer on a mix of water and gloss medium - you can make all kinds of designs on the tissue using paint - stencils whatever. Once it dries you pull the tissue off the plastic and the paint you left on your palette will also come up. 2. Sometimes you can pull the paint leftover on the plastic right up like a skin and use on a painting. Just fun things to saving paint. I love your work. I also live in Austin and just found you. Looking forward to following you.

Hi Jodie, thanks for a great video! My tip is to use a palet of glass (like a window or a mirror), especially when using acrylic paint. Mixing on glass is great, when you’re done for the day you whipe off the leftovers paint for a first layer on a new canvas (goodbye white scary canvas) let the residue dry, and the next morning you just spray water on the residue, wait the time to pour your coffee and then scrape of with a paletknife. In this case you spoil as little paint as you can in the water and you prevent using 1-time plastics. I’ve learned this from Flora Bowley a while ago, happy with it since!

I cover the top shelf of my rolling paint cart with freezer paper and use as my pallet, shiny side up. It dries overnight and and its ready for the next day. After the layers build annit becomes a thicker layer, I cover with a layer of gel medium in any sheen, let dry. Then peel the paint layer off the freezer paper, an voila you have a "paint skin" which I will collage onto a cavas or hard panel. I love abstract!!

Thanks for your comment, Ann! I love this and I love using the "paint skins" as well!

Other tips: Keep a small book that is divided by supply... acrylic paint(s) (then by brand), pastels (again, then by brand), etc. with swatches of color and the names, and keep that book IN YOUR BAG. This will eliminate buying duplicates (whether that is a double of the same exact brand/color, or an almost the same from another brand). The other is buy online, put what you (think you) need in the online basket, but DON'T BUY IT yet. Walk away. Come back later, and rethink it. Then buy online vs in the store. I will spend SO MUCH MORE in the store than I will online because... it's all so fun and pretty and you know, impulse and instant gratification.

I wished I could get Nova brand in Canada, I really see the difference from cheaper brands compared to higher quality!! If they even ship here, we have to pay duty etc. which is costly! Is there anyone from Canada that ordered Nova??? I love your lessons and your art is awesome....bless your heart for sharing! I'm 67 years old and I am learning abstract....it saves me from heartbreak of losing loved ones!! I love your videos, comparable to others, I learn the most and you are fun!! Thank you so much and warm greetings from Canada!!!♡

Hi Diane, Nova has recently begun shipping internationally, so you might reach out to them regarding shipping costs. And I totally understand about how art can help us heal from heartbreak. Much love to you!

Hi Jodie, great video. Love the painting in the background. I've never heard of Nova but I will check them out. I buy the palettes that the paint can be peeled off, and with the dry paint I use it in my paintings. May I suggest horizontal videos to see more of your pretty face? ;)

I have some Nova paints and my only complaint is the size of the lid and trying to open it after a while. How do you keep your lids from sticking shut? With the size I have a hard time gripping it well enough to loosen the dried paint seal. Any tips would be awesome! I do love the price and quality of these paints. Thanks soo much!

HI Denise! Thanks for your question. It truly is a problem and really the only drawback I have found with their paints. I have heard that it helps to put wax paper on top of the jar before sealing it. You could also buy squeeze bottles (like the ketchup and mustard bottles found in restaurants) and put the paint in those. For me, I just simply rest the top on the jar rather than screwing it completely closed. I hope that helps! Happy Painting!

Hi Jodie, love the sheet paper idea! I rotate between butcher trays and HATE cleaning in between. As far as big canvases do you stretch your own?
@JodieKingArt4 жыл бұрын
Hi Nikki! I usually buy my canvas pre-stretched. Since I often spin my canvas, I find that makes it easier.

Hi Jodie! I saw you use different pastels with your acrylic paint, how is that possible specially at the end process when varnishing the finished piece?
@skeskali4 жыл бұрын
What stiffness of brush should we get at the hardware store?
@JodieKingArt4 жыл бұрын
skeskali The stiffness will be your personal preference but I always suggest spending a little more and buying the best brush you can because lesser quality brushes will shed on your painting. Good luck!

Unfortunately Noca doesn't ship to Europe, that's a pity because Canada and Ue have trade agreements to ease impo-exportation. I hope they will change their mind
@JodieKingArt5 жыл бұрын
That stinks! I wonder if there is another brand that is similar...meaning another great brand that ships direct to artists?
