I was curious if in a video or Q and A if you could talk about how to have conversations and discussions about feelings/attitudes towards intimacy in the early stages of getting to know your partner and finding if they can be a good match. This tends to be a taboo topic in the Muslim community but I feel that it’s important to know if you’re partner holds toxic or misguided beliefs when it comes to sex and intimacy. But also people are at their own stages when it comes to this topic so how do you create that balance of talking about but also being considerate too

@@amirahzaky Jazakallah khairun. For me personally I don’t really have fears but I do know that often there is shame and it’s gets viewed as “unislamic” talking about these topics. But I guess a difficulty I have is that wanting to kind of talk about this earlier on in the courting process but coming about it in a respectful way. I don’t know if that helps but I’m really looking forward to all of your new videos!!

I’m not sure if the sister spoke about this or not. But I understand the taboos in the Muslim community (very frustrating). I think we need to think about it first as a potential life partner. Someone you are going to do life together. That first gets you in the mindset of intentionality. So it’s super important to know what beliefs and or knowledge that potential life partner has about intimacy and sex. The non invasive way is just to ask what intimacy means to them. That alone will give you a great start. And ask them for any examples they had if any growing up as well (for context). Remembering that potential life partner is just that, and will be the only one with that kind of access to you. Also, what is mentionable is manageable. One great example is I had a sister start off with a potential life partner by asking when was the last time he changed his toothbrush. It’s not the conventional way, but the small things are SUPER important. And can give you some direction for going forward or not in conversation. That’s before getting to any deeper subject matters.
