The quality of these videos are really getting a lot better, the slow-mo, explanations, common mistakes, drills and holy hell, I actually watched Isaac's videos way before watching Better at Beach and forgot it existed. It's nice to see he uploads videos again. Thanks for the content!

Have to try this. I use all shoulder. I've gotta get that whip action down.
@charleslavalliere4 жыл бұрын
Played indoor middle blocker ? A lot of them have this tendancy to jump keeping the hitting hand in front and using shoulder to do a quick hit on the ball. Easier to get those passing quick sets, but losing a lot of power.
@tonybowen4554 жыл бұрын
@@charleslavalliere Not from indoor, but I'm doing exactly what you said. I do like quicker sets on beach as well. I have a hard time hitting a proper beach set.
@charleslavalliere4 жыл бұрын
@@tonybowen455 It is not a good practice. A lot of people use it to get better a quick set faster, but it introduces an improper arm swing and limits your options. Successful hitters have options, more than power. A good arm swing opens up your game : spike, roll, angles, hit deep or short, use wrist to add or remove spin (top or side), hit far from net, move around the block, etc... And you have only one mechanic to master instead of many that may affect your footwork and/or approach. Not an easy task, specially to work on by oneself alone. Still not necessary to have fun and enjoy volleyball. Depends how much you want to progress in a more competitive way.
@tonybowen4554 жыл бұрын
@@charleslavalliere I wanna hit cbva B level. I need that whip action everyone has for a proper hard cross hit. I've been working on it, but it'll prob take me a while. I actually can't even get that whip feeling on a women's height net yet. Better at beach has great vids on their site and on here, so I'm still new to the proper mechanics of everything. It's been getting better slowly, but I also just want to jump higher so I can do whatever like on a women's net. =D

Mark noticed that you tend to almost reach back when hitting sometimes . I know everyone is different (Casey hits late for sure). Phil often seems to have ball slightly behind too. ..Taylor has ball like 8.25” in front of him almost every time Can you comment on this .

These are some deep cut secrets. I never heard of syncing that specific part of the external rotation with the oblique activation. At what point are you supposed to DE-activate or let go of your rhomboid?

Mark, how would you Strech your chest if not by contracting the romboid? Stretching a muscle isn't something that this particular muscle does. A muscle can only contract. It is however stretched (passive!) by its counter muscles. Ergo, your romboid stretches your chest. Or is there another muscle that can achieve this, but which we as a volleyball player shouldn't use?
@betteratbeachvolleyball4 жыл бұрын

I believe the mistake was stretching the chest via the rear deltoids as the counter muscle instead of the rhomboids. Try pulling back the elbow of one arm with your rear deltoid with no rhomboid activation, versus pulling it back with your rhomboid with no rear deltoid activation.

Ugh I could kick myself. Wish I had seen this sooner! I'm currently in PT for my shoulder and trying to reverse engineer what went wrong. I used to use my full body to hit because my arms were too weak otherwise. I worked hard to bulk up my arm muscles so I didn't have to look weird using my full body to do things like serving. 😅 Now I'm hurt. Turns out former me was doing it right all along. 🤦🏼♀️
