I have watched several videos on passing fundamentals, as well as took some vb private lessons and clinics. While watching this video, something finally clicked as to passing correctly. I think it was Brandon's description of the shoulders curving over an imagined PVC pipe and the abs doing a crunch position. Thanks for the clear instructions.

Same issue here!
@betteratbeachvolleyball3 жыл бұрын
DO NOT STRESS ABOUT BACKSPIN. That's just physics. The only way to counter that would be to add a lot of bad movement or pass a low shooting ball that would lose your point. It's not up to you to take spin off the ball. Setters should be able to do that.

@@betteratbeachvolleyball when creating the platform, do you forcefully rotate the forearms outwards to create a flatter surface? or do you allow the natural angle to form with a relaxed arms?

@@s2lai I force my forearms out. It creates a way flatter platform for me. I also don't use the typical hand hold. I use the palm grab method, which helps me get my forearms out farther.

If the service is too high for me to pass the ball with my hand infront of me, can I “set” the ball instead, with my hands above my head? If I so choose, can I send that “set” across the net as an attacking shot? As long as my shoulders are perpendicular to the direction I am sending the ball and that if dips below the level of the net before I make contact with the ball

That was actually a slip of the tongue/edit mistake and an oversimplification. Stick with starting by facing where the ball is coming from and always try to have the "tilt" of your shoulders slightly towards the net to make sure the ball goes forward. Sorry for the confusion.

Thanks for the video. It seems like the main issue is that the players aren’t getting to the ball (and correct position) in time. Therefore the body is trying to compensate and still give the best pass posible cause that’s what the brain is commanding. (I’m in the health field lol) Do you think it’s better to work on getting to the correct place and position faster and then work on these skills would make more sense? My coach always told me "Try to look at your shoulder while extending your arms straight." There's only one way to do it - round the back. I struggle with that form all of the time, and I can tell when I'm tired and not doing it correctly.
@betteratbeachvolleyball3 жыл бұрын
That's a solid pointer! It is tough to stay athletic and engaged when you're tired or hot... Been there!!
@davidallyn18183 жыл бұрын
@@betteratbeachvolleyball The first thing that happens when I'm tired is *bent elbows* ... ugh. After a couple of shanks I have to dig deep and focus on really pushing those arms down, out, and together -- shoulders at my ears and square to the net and elbow eyes looking toward my target. Thanks for your videos!!

What is the purpose of rounding the back? Why is it necessary?
@betteratbeachvolleyball3 жыл бұрын
Rounding your back helps you keep your shoulders and platform FORWARD - many amateurs or people who haven't received coaching tend to pass with their back very straight up which leads to your platform being parallel to the ground (which causes your pass to be off the net) or even leads to your weight falling backwards which pulls the pass even farther off the net.
