This was great! The yarn is really beautiful, and I learned a few things. The only thing I didn’t get was why you spin the thread Z. Thanks.
@jkfiberarts Жыл бұрын
If I spin the thread S and ply S it will become over twisted. It doesn’t matter as long as you ply the opposite direction you spin the singles. I spin nearly all of my singles Z and Ply S. I have tried plying with commercial thread and I ran it through my wheel Z very quickly to take some of the twist out because the commercial yarn was plied S. It worked great!

@@jkfiberarts ok so you also spun the thick and thin Z? I must have missed that. 🤷🏼♀️

@jamiethrogmorton2540 yes. Both spun Z and plied S

I love seeing this yarn knit up! I always see art yarns used in weaving but not as much for knitting.

I absolutely love everything about this. The colors are so relaxing to me, like easing into a warm hug. Thick and thin are my favorite yarns to spin. Of course I'm not that experienced with spinning on a wheel, but have done loads on my drop spindles and my floor spindle (aka Navajo spindle). Your explanation of everything was wonderful, including how to handle overtwist when it happens. Thanks for sharing your wisdom.

Thank you for this great video. I am in hospital (since August🙄) and I was so immersed in your spinning that I actually felt like myself again! It’s easy to forget who you really are when you’re a patient!! I miss my wheel so it was lovely to be a part of your spin. 🙏 I love how the yarn turned out …such earthy colours, and it will be a beautiful cowl! 😊

A little snap or just time will relax and distribute some of the twist energy won’t it? I usually give even my art yarns a bath, should I not?
@jkfiberarts Жыл бұрын
It you wet set baubles and thick and thin you can lose the yarn structure and some of the smoothness of the thick parts. I have done it both ways and steaming art yarn with some snapping works really well, and gives me the best finished product. All other yarns I wet set and either snap or thwack. Always use cold water.

That is absolutely beautiful! Thanks for the tutorial. I try to "make" art yarn and it looks nice and then I soak it and kill it. Didn't realize I could steam it. Back to the drawing board. Where did you buy your silk?

Glad you found it helpful! I get sofsilk and pulled silk sari from Camaj Fiber Arts. She is based out of Florida. camajfiberarts.com/
