I don’t need to know how to split the information. I need to Know how to actually JUST SPLIT THE CELL. Divide a cell in one column into two or more cells. Why is this so hard to find??
@ExcelOffTheGrid2 жыл бұрын
That isn’t how Excel works. It’s not a presentational tool, Rows and Columns actually mean something in Excel. So you can’t find it because you can’t do it.
@nemod33382 жыл бұрын
But this is not splitting of a cell. It is splitting of the DATA within a cell and creating an extra cells on the side. The main question everyone is looking for is HOW TO PHYSICALLY SPLIT A CELL (in two, three) IN EXCEL? Which is not possible. How hard is for Microsoft to implement simple rule like "Cell B" becomes "Cell Ba + Cell Bb" after splitting within the same "Cell B"?
@ExcelOffTheGrid2 жыл бұрын
Sorry, but that sounds like a terrible idea. Most users already struggle structuring data correctly; adding the concept of a partial columns and it will be even more of a mess. If you want to split a cell in that way, just insert a column, and use the techniques in the video to populate that column.

Physically split a cell? Honestly I got confused trying to understand what you mean.

Hi Mark! Thanks for the lesson on splitting data 🥰... But I need to split one data cell which contains First Name, Last name, Address, City, State, Zip Code, Country and Mobile Number to different columns like First Name in First cell, Last Name in Second cell and followed by Address like that remaining.. Can you make a video on this please...

Can you split one cell in the same cell? or you need to add a row? Im not english but what im trying to say is if it is possible to slice in half one cell but not in columns but horizontally
@ExcelOffTheGrid3 жыл бұрын
You can add a line break into a cell. Is that what you mean?

The easiest is when Flash Fill, use Alt+Enter to create a line break in the cell.

Hey!! Can you just tell how to slice a cell into two? Any method except the flash fill>alt+enter one Pleaseee

Isn’t that what the video shows? Or do you have a specific scenario? Can you share a bit more info about what you’re after.
@AntipodesAnnie2 жыл бұрын
@@ExcelOffTheGrid if it's what I'm trying to do is not moving the info to a new cell but to split an existing cell in half so that it doesn't affect the formatting of the cell above it. I have a restricted format, the cell size cannot be changed but I need to put more information. I cannot insert new cells so I need to be able to split a cell in half and maintain the same size. I know I can insert a new cell then merge all the other cells above it to main the formatting but if there is an easier way, it would be good to know.
@ExcelOffTheGrid2 жыл бұрын
@@AntipodesAnnie Excel isn’t like Word or PowerPoint, which are both presentational tools. Excel is for calculations, therefore the rigid structure of rows and columns is critical to how it works. So you can create a new column and merge some cells across to give the same end result, but you can split a cell in the same way as PowerPoint or Word. Sorry. 😬

Hi, thank you for the video, how about if we have a middle name, what formula or function to use? Thanks
@userrjlyj5760g Жыл бұрын
that has nothing to do with "split cell" ... you should put the title as split data inside cell instead!!!

Can we fixed the second word of the name at specific intervals of that cell in excel

This title is missleading. This is splitting data in a cell. If splitting a cell, which this is NOT, can't be done as I've seen mentioned in the comments, then at least correct your tittle. Thanks.

14 minutes videos for 1 small issue ? ridiculous !
@ExcelOffTheGrid2 жыл бұрын
Lol!! If only it were a small issue. Text data rarely follows structured patterns, and can cause some of the biggest data integration issues. I’m just trying to share the tools that might help based in a simple scenario. Things can get a lot more complex with fuzzy matching and and pattern matching algorithms required.

In Excel a cell is the smallest unit. So splitting a cell can only mean splitting the contents of a cell.

@@ExcelOffTheGrid Thank you! i thought i seen something to have ONE cell in the middle of a document and in order not to insert another column the same cell can be splitted. Id there anything like that in excel?
