This was fascinating. I don't know anything about fixing motorcycles. I was told that I need to replace the countershaft on my Versys 650 (worn splines) and it would require "splitting the case." It's going to be expensive!

Throw a little heat on the crank bearing and the case will slide off pretty easy. Sometimes the bearing will come off on the crank and you have to use some heat or a puller to get it off. All this is getting replaced anyway regardless because now it the time to do it while the cases are open.

If I remember correctly the puller is an old Motion Pro. Its been a good one, many cases split and a few cranks pushed out too.

These are available from many places online, search for "motorcycle crankcase splitter tool" and you should have many choices.

@@Cyclepedia good morning I found the crank case tool ...does all of them come out same way I have a polaris predator 500 2007 I took all the bolts out an is still hard to separate the case an I dont wanna hurt it I'm just so lost a friend of mine broke the shaft of the water pump changing it there a bolt on the side where the sprocket goes do i suppose to take that out cause i try an try an dont come out but I dont know if I'm supposed to take that one out to
