Is it just me or is Illustrator kinda more complicated than it needs to be?!
@DarkSideDenmark5 жыл бұрын
Dude, it's such a terrible program. I often find myself using Paint because it's so much simpler when you have to cut and slice objects. Unbelievable.
@LightspeedPatrick5 жыл бұрын
It's because you're unfamiliar with the complexity of the system. In order to have so much accomplished in a program, there has to be a lot of complexity in the way resources are managed and produced. Keep giving yourself time and find different ways to do things, it is far easier to accomplish these tasks with great precision using Illustrator.

It's honestly the most unnecessary complicated shite on earth lol as if they wanted to make it extra hard to learn, so that those who have mastered it feel great about themselves haha

This is so great. I was battling with this yesterday and it was hectic, though I got it but I didn't know it was much easier like this. Thanks.

Wowwww, thank you! I was struggling with this so much yesterday, so this is super helpful! I've used the shape-builder tool to combine shapes, but I didn't realize it could also split them. Would be nice if that was a part of the pop-up s-b tool menu, but whatever xD Glad I found your video!

oh thank you so much man! I'm trying to illustrate a Mecha in illustrator, and you can imagine i need to divide shapes into more detailed shapes with many many lines. This is actually a slightly better way than how i learned in school. In school we cut shapes apart with other shapes with the shape builder and pathfinder, rather than split shapes with lines, so thank you

THANK YOU !!!!! You made something I've been trying to learn for ages - understandable. You are a Blessing.

Great, to the point, tutorial. I appreciate how you make sure we know where to get to certain menu options, but you don't waste a lot of time on it either and stay focused on achieving the finished result.

you don't need to use the eyedropper tool, just select both shapes then shape builder and press m1 while holding alt/option to delete the section you want to get rid off the shape builder tool it's really handy at speeding up some of these shape tasks

Cool, I need to try out using the eyedropper before the shape builder tool.
@pixelandbracket7 жыл бұрын
If you watch towards the end, come to find out you don’t need to eyedropper, just make sure your shape was the last thing selected and the fill/stroke will be the same. Oh well haha
@jaseylove7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I saw that. I've only had the colour/stroke issue with the pathfinder and not the shape builder but it's always good to see how someone else works!
@pixelandbracket7 жыл бұрын
It will definitely apply whatever the fill/stroke is using this method, ran into that as soon as i started recording which is why i went the eyedropper route

Hi do you know how to cut objects using this method but with a transparent fill? lets say you made a rectangle and then you have only black strokes and no fills...how do you use the eyedropper tool and then take a sample with the transparent color? cause when i did this..i wanted to cut a rectangle with black strokes and no fills and then i created a rectangle box out of the line segment tool that forms a rectangle and then joined all the lines to create a full rectangle then aligned it inside the rectangle with black strokes with no fills and then the next part is clicking the black stroke rectangle with no fills and taking a sample of the fill which is transparent...the next that happened was: the rectangle with black strokes and no fills became transparent when i use the eyedropper tool...is there any way that the black strokes can be retained and I can be able to cut on the inside?
