The watch depends onn who wears it. A fake Rolex on Bill Gate's wrist is percieved as genuine while a genuine Rolex on the wrist of a $9.75 per hour McDonalds or burger king employee will be percieved as fake. So it depends on who is wearing the watch.

How to tell a fake Rolex from a real one, according to most KZbin videos: Step 1. Buy a real Rolex of the same model and style. Step 2. Hold them next to one another and compare them. Step 3. Hope that the fake is not new and is worn so that it's easier to tell. The point is, when you are actually buying the watch, you do not have any of these luxuries for comparison. You will not have an exact real one on-hand for comparison. Otherwise, if you had one, why would you be shopping for the same exact watch again? The fake will be in new condition, so the wear indicators, like checking if the steel shows through the fake gold, are not going to be there for you. I doubt, if handed only the fake in new condition, without a real version for comparison, and asked to decide if it was real or fake, you would have been able to tell. It's scary out there.

I have a real Rolex Submariner, that my wife bought me for a wedding present some 14 years ago, at least I am pretty sure it is real as I recently sent it in to Rolex to be recondition and $1,100.00 dollars later it came back to me looking brand new, I would not think they would recondition a fake watch. Point is I was at market in Bahrain a couple of years ago where we compared my Rolex to the fakes there side by side and we could not tell the difference, heck the sellers in the market were telling me that my watch was a fake. My coworker ended up buying a couple for his adult sons, $25.00 per watch, and within a year both watches stopped working. So the moral of the story is, $6,000,00 is too much to pay for any watch, you are better off buying a dozen fakes as no one is ever going to know the difference.

Just getting into watches, and this sort of thing is what frightened me the most. t seems to be my best option is to always buy from reputable dealers / trusted individuals. I decided to cruise EBAY just to see if I could spot a fake submariner, I thought I found one with oversize crown guards, but from what I can find, Model 114060 has some huge guards. The font difference between the models for this watch are alarming also, it seems Rolex likes to change up the "details" a bit when they make revisions. I have a 1:1 replica of a Rolex Daytona in 2 tone which I bought in China for $100aud. I get compliments on it all the time. I've even taken it off to show my friend who is a watch enthusiast, and not even he could tell it was fake. I don't think I'll ever run into or meet someone who knows my watch is fake. As someone who doesn't currently own a Rolex I thought that this was a really interesting video. I also enjoyed the way you presented this pretty serious topic with some ironic humour and camera techniques. While I don't agree with it, and have never bought one, a $100 fake I can understand in terms of a joke; a bit of a lark while on holidays or something. I just wear an Invicta When I’m working I get asked 2-3 times a week if my watch is a Rolex. It’s held up for 5 years and the gold plating has never tarnished. Just buy an Invicta because most people when they see a “Rolex-Look a Like” want to see it up close. When they see it’s Invicta, it’s a known and reputable brand and the one I got was $80 bucks. If I’m right Invicta sells about 4-5 that look similar to a Rolex without screaming fake. But I also own about 15-16 Invictas so maybe it’s an obsession haha

Rolex makes a very nice watch but they are way overpriced. Their cases are built like tanks but as an owner of three I can tell you that both my Omega Speedmaster Professional and Breitling both keep better time. One of the Rolex's I purchased new and I still feel foolish for spending the money, the other two I inherited and would never have spent the money on them as the cheapest sub mariner is worth well over $5,000.00 and there is no Gold. Ironically in 2010 I finally gave in to purchasing a fake Rolex in lower Manhattan in China Town. The guy had three levels of Rolex, $25.00, $80.00, $150.00. The one here looks much like the $25.00 watch I saw. I bought the $150.00 version but paid $85.00 for it. All three watches looked nice to the untrained eye but the highest level did indeed look much better. I pulled it a part and compared it to one of my legit ones and it indeed does look very close to the real watch both externally and internally but lacks a number of true markings and the engraved internal numbers are gritty. So was it worth buying the fake? Absolutely!!!! Why???? If anyone ever tries to mug me, they get an $85.00 watch, not a $5,000.00 one. Next, I work in the TV business and many executives think that you make a lot of money so you must be wearing a real Rolex versus some kid working in the mailroom who may be wearing a real Rolex that he inherited but most people would never believe he was in fact wearing a real one because of his job capacity. Such an irony but again as Marshall McLuhan once said: "The Medium Is the Message". My good watches rarely get used and all look brand new. I have nothing to prove as I check my ego at the door so cheap times pieces do serve a purpose. With that said, even good time pieces that use to be inexpensive raise quickly in price once they catch on and build in popularity. A perfect example are the higher end Marathon watches. I own 5 of them and my first one cost me $475.00 brand new. Twelve years later, the same watch now costs over $900.00 and that is with a rubber watch band. My point being that Rolex's 50-70 years ago were a bargain. My favorite is an old Oyster Raleigh that my dad bought off of a German man right after the US completed our occupation in Normandy. The cost?? 6 camel cigarettes. My dad gave his chocolate bars that were worth even money to the French people that were suffering, he charged them nothing!!!! I have the Oyster Raleigh today and wear it a few times a week. I just saw the exact watch sell for over $1,000.00 on EBAY and mine is much nicer. Again, it was once worth 6 cigarettes, now its worth over $1,000.00 because people know what it is. If you want a really superb watch that many people still know very little about except for true collectors, look up LEMANIA. Many of the watches that came out of the WW2 era had 21 jewels and were solid 18 caret gold. Simply amazing watches. Vintage ZODIAC Sea Wolfs are now incredibly hard to find in good condition and sell for thousands of dollars. Seiko’s’ are also very nice watches and keep great time but with rare exception will never be revered by true collectors but they still are great time pieces. The same can be said for their little cousin Pulsar. Everyone should buy a 1970's Seiko helmet version before they become too expensive. Patek's are amazing but again the cost of owner ship is just out of control. Good IWC's can still be found but expect bidding wars if you find them in the online world. Even Luminox has some decent automatics using ETA and Valjioux movements with the Deep Dive, limed edition SR-71 and Space versions. At the end of the day, if the watch tells good time, can take some abuse, is water resistant and does not fog up with moisture after taking a good shower, many of them will outlast their owners and be handed down to another generation for more enjoyment. Ever heard of Helbros?? You can buy them for a song and a dance and my 1972 keeps better time than every Rolex I have except for the Oyster Raleigh. At the end of the day, I think people should get past the snob appeal of expensive watches. They do of course serve a purpose but there are many better places to invest your hard earned money and during tough economic times, luxury items loose much of their value. They put a lot of love and hard work to make this fake rolex. You are right. You have to become an Expert. I have however been able to Spot a Fake Yachtmaster II Blue Dial. When I say this I am basing this on the 2015 Year. Yes, they Change, but for the most part, the Subdial on the Yachtmaster should be Blue with White writing. The Fakes are Blue with Black Lettering, but you are right. I disagree. There are definitive ways to tell a fake from a genuine. If you know what you are looking for there are many things to look at. But yes, of course, if you don't know what to look for definitely take it to an authorized dealer to have it examined, but I can pick out a fake by looking over the watch. There are some that I would have to open the caseback to be able to tell, but most I can tell just by looking at the details. There's some replica factories that make replicas so good that you absolutely have to take the case back off. There are good fakes that are the proper weight, have the semi invisible etched crown done properly, and have the double lined rehaut. good printing. The movements function exactly how the gen functions. The font on the dial, and datebox are correct, the polishing and brushing are correct. basically everything is spot on except for the movement inside. I have nothing against replicas. There are a lot of people that can't afford a gen. but love rolex, and a good replica might be a good option for them. I also know many genuine owners who buy a replica of the model they are interested in buying before they buy the genuine to see if they like how it looks and feels on their wrist first. I think that's actually a good idea before you spend 6,000 to 50.000 dollars on a watch. Nothing wrong with that. and yes, that's a very low quality fake you are using in this video. good job though. There's many people who cannot tell the difference, so videos like this can help people before they get scammed because there's so many scammers out there selling fakes as genuines.

J Anthony, another great video. I agree with you in that if you are after a specific watch, then do your research. Omega, like Rolex, has many different iterations of the Speedmaster Professional. If you wanted a moon watch then there is a great book called "Moonwatch" that goes into the Nth degree on them. It's a bit expensive, but considering the price of the watch, well worth it for the education. I also agree with you in buying the seller. I liked the B&W with the "smart" glasses. And I laughed at the insert at the bottom, Watches coming soon. All in all, very enjoyable and informative. Great job!

I suspect that there may be immediate tip-offs regarding a particular fake, but not once the fake passes a level of sophistication. A good reason to just avoid any "bling" encrusted watch purporting to be a Rolex, if the add-ons were not an original factory model. A positive aspect about choosing a simpler classic model like the black Sub is that people either will just not notice your watch, or assume it is a look-alike copy. Unless, of course, your goal is to peacock around, in which case you'd be wearing a fake Jaeger or Patek etc.

What does it say about you if you wear a fake Rolex? Perhaps that you yearn for the image of wearing a luxury brand but aren't willing or able to pay for it. You want the respect of other people who admire these brands, but are always running the risk of being called out as a fake. Or perhaps you have contempt for the concept of luxury brands and wear a fake to show that very few can tell the difference, but in doing that you're in a way giving credibility to the luxury concept. The new replicas from CF and VSF are virtually impossible to tell. They've mastered the watches including the actual parts used. I paid $550 for my submariner and my local Rolex couldn't tell the difference. They've gotten THAT good. Scary. This is no contest. This fake was most likely made in China, costs $3 USD to make and deemed disposable because of such poor quality. However, replicas made in Switzerland can retail $1200 and up, look and feel absolutely authentic and features Rolex-movement, Sapphire crystal, solid gold links and other materials of the highest grade. This is a great vid but I would love to see a similar comparison between a true Sub and a Swiss-made replica.

I found the video very interesting. I volunteer at a place that sells donated items and uses the money to help people In our community. Someone donated a non working "Rolex" Submariner. The A in submariner is pointed. So fake, right? I noticed that the A on your GMT Master is pointed. Just the Submariner has the flat A? Also, I see no serial number on the donated watch either. No idea what I can get for a non working fake Rolex. I wondered why the rewinding didn't help (I looked it up to see what could be done to make it work). The movement looks pretty but doesn't work. J, I have a relative who works for US Treasury Dept. Working with currency, he said you might as well paint a forged bill orange. In a stack of hundreds...you can spot a forgery instantly, just by 'a feeling'. The more one handles real Rolex watches, they acquire this same sense. I have one that looks like these except the white dots have what looks like to be small diamonds and the back is clear and shows the inside of the watch along with a small pink crystal.
