She did not hit on not 1 true warning signed that your dealing with a scammer rather than a real tarot reader, but she did actually commit a sure fire bell ringer herself. OMG thanks for having this conversation. I'm a Jungian science based reader and don't do any of the "musts" she requires. She totally invalidated my entire practice. As I tell my students, there are as many roads to tarot as there are readers. The must is that you are ethical and honest, everything else is preference. Thanks for all you do!!

Maybe we do need some gatekeeping so that we can keep self-righteousness of her kind out. In 20 years of reading, I have never cleansed a deck and I don't intend to start. I mostly don't use spreads (gasp!), I often read with majors only and even though I'm pagan I don't have a sacred space to read in, I'll read anywhere, office, basement, kitchen, living room, park, bar. I'm a man so not very sacred and not very feminine. I don't read jumpers but I shuffle my decks to death because I love how a good hard shuffle feels and I don't educate people unless they ask about something and I'm in the mood to explain and no one has ever complained because they usually want answers to mundane questions about love, money, work, etc. So suck it lady. I can't stand self-righteousness.

Also, I LOVED how you pointed out how ableist it is to say that someone's not a "real" tarot reader because of how they shuffle. I have stiff finger joints that have only gotten more painful over the years. I love shuffling live and reading the cards as they make themselves known to me in real time. That's my tarot shuffle love language. 🥰 But there will likely come a day when i can't do that anymore, and that's okay, too. Also, i felt it was pretty ableist of her to say "didn't even bother to learn the meanings of the cards" as if that's just so easy for everyone. I have discalculia, and learning the 5 through 8 range of all the suits was INCREDIBLY difficult. And i graduated magna cum laude from a tier one university...it's not as if i can't learn things. But to my brain, 5 and 7 are essentially the same number, and so are 6 and 8. There's no rhyme or reason to it, it's a cognitive processing disability. Even now, a lot of the time, my brain will blank on those and I read the art intuitively. Bit it's not because i don't care or didn't take the time, and honestly (maybe I am taking this a littler personally, but...) I find her implication that people with disabilities aren't "real" tarot readers to be pretty freaking offensive. *Edited for spelling

Wow, not sure where to start! First of all thank you for doing this video. I say yes to more spicy videos. I think the one that bothered me the most was "you must teach, the cards and spirituality" I know I'm paraphrasing there. I can't even imagine the ego that thinks that is a must for a tarot reading. I read for myself, family and friends. If I started putting my spirituality on top of a reading when it wasn't part of the question or ask for, I would be called out so quick. Rightly so. Some I read for want just the answer, some want to know more about how I got the answer and are more interactive with the reading and meanings. Yes absolutely to empowering the querent!!! I don't have to put my spirituality forward or give a class on tarot reading to do that. I wonder why this person is so cut and dry. Tarot is a beautiful system of divination. It is certainly a system that can absorb all the wonderful, creative, heartfelt styles of reading. Yes I know there are scammers out there. it is not scamming to have a ethical, diverse, different reading style then the author of the tik-tok video.

Really appreciated this Ethony, I was surprised at some of the stuff she said: the music being played? The way you shuffle? Cleansing cards after every reading? I’d love to have a sit down chat with her sometime and try to understand whether these are sincere beliefs or if she was saying what she thought she had to say to attract clients- feminine clients apparently. The femininity thing completely caught me off guard in particular. Beyond having a history of being created by males, the tarot is not just feminine in energy at all. (Looking at you Magician, Emperor, etc). I almost wish she’d respond to you just so we can understand what the heck she meant by that. As someone is still in the process of learning (3 years strong), I was nervous about the 'right' or 'wrong' of doing tarot, because of alot of GATEKEEPERS on YT. Also, I am still learning the meaning of the cards (because repetition is my style of learning). But, practioners like YOU have made me feel so much better about practicing Tarot. I don't watch tik tok I would be an angry old lady if I would. I read tarot since the 80'... the way that people read or present themselves had changed so much. I found important to have a good base but also each reader have their own style ! I am not there to educate anybody but if a person ask a question I will try to answer to my best knowledge. I feel this person is just making a big pub so people will go to her website and buy "the real thing" ... Sadly there will be some to believe her... As for me the ones who are used to come to me for their reading will continu they don't mind how I "cleaned or cleansed" my cards... they are paying me to know... Very interesting. I thought there is no wrong in readings, it's you applying your lens to the system. I think the only rules here are to learn the system and not to con people that you're going to solve their problems and make them happy or predict a future which they cannot change. I have to randomly tell you this - I bought a deck from you years ago (A manifestation oracle deck with a unicorn on it I think it was from Australia and I couldn't find it in Canada) and a couple months ago my house was literally falling down a hill and the city had to do an emergency demolition and I lost so many things BUT your beautiful thank you card survived it under all the rubble! Blimey….The Tarot deck is a an unbound-book. And reading the cards 🃏 is reading a story-interpretation. I use intuition…. so it depends what I feel on the day…. I agree with you Ethony. One of my TikTok videos was kicked off because I spoke of the Devil card and domestic violence, Tiktok said it was for entertainment purposes only….. Tarot consultations with via video or in person are much deeper and obviously all sorts of situations are on the table. I watched your video -hit the thumbs up and left.. I rarely take time to comment because I honestly don’t even check reply’s to comments I make. First I realize TikTok is THE social platform but I’m old and it seems so impersonal to me. I’m sure it’s easier for the people who make the videos because they are so short. In my spirituality, which is an eclectic witch, I really don’t need Somebody who is claiming to be a professional on a divination tool ( tarot ) to make a short video about basically her personal opinions… And that is exactly what this lady has done. I have a been very intuitive since I was born.. But I don’t need somebody to tell me how to spot if somebody is fake.. because I can feel their energy immediately. So if I had to give a warning or post a video which I would never do, and I have no idea how to do that, I would say before one of the most powerful tools everybody has is intuition..learning that getting in tuned with that will not only guide you in your spiritual path ….it’ll also make you spot bull$hit or fake a mile away ….😂 Also, a tarot reading is fluid meaning that at that time where you are emotionally, if you keep going, the exact same way, your answer will be your most likely outcome however, you have the ability to change that… terrell readings are not the end all answer to your questions.. Rather a spiritual guide.

First off those rings look really amazing! Just casual observations for someone incredibly new to tarot. Well I don't know if it was a sound cross over thing but Erica's music choice sounds like a cheap 1950s sci-fi soundtrack to an equally cheap film production. Not razzing on cheap 50s sci-fi films/music scores, that's just how it sounds. I am chaos. The universe is chaos. So I read with tarot spreads and just free style. When I meditate with my spirit guides (finding them thanks to a course of Ethony's) I do free style and when I have a specific question or questions I use spreads. Also because I'm chaos (I don't consider it ego) I sometimes use cards that fly out and sometimes I don't. My shuffling style is odd but it seems to get the job done. I think her comments on shuffling style is ableist. I think her comments on feminine art thing to be condescending and it is ignorant to tarot readers that may feel equally masculine and feminine at the same time. Then again, I don't read for other people and I may not do so. People like Erica doesn't fill me with confidence that my style would be welcome. Considering it was once a game for entertainment (from a rudimentary study, apologies if that's incorrect) I don't know other people can be so rigid about how tarot is used. It's a tool, isn't it? Not conjugations or mutations in language where you have to follow rules in order to be understood. Finally, I was hoping for a tad more spice, but then I'm a spicy gal in general. That first one had me like... wow!!! Guess I'm not a real reader then! I cleanse them, pray over them, knock on them , charge with crystals etc, when I feel called to, if it's weighing on me to do it. It's not a constant thing for me. What da fu.... Seriously? I mean, who is she, to judge about what's "right" or "wrong" - as there would only exist one (her) truth... Tarot is the exact opposite of this. “Tarot is for everyone, because everybody has an intuition. Tarot is a way to connect to that." I am a 95% intuitive reader, sometimes with spreads, sometimes without. Sometimes I use only one deck, sometimes more. And sometimes I even mix Tarot and Oracel decks - which means an absolut "Tarot Mayhem" I guess. As a neurodivergent person I basically live in chaos, I am chaos :). I can focus best when hearing loud music and I am a loud person. For me, jumping cards are the ones that want to be read, they need to jump out because they have something important to say. But thats just how I feel it, which does not mean its the only way or the only right way in Tarot. So I tick all the boxes for a "Classic Fake Tarot Reader" LOL :) Thanks Erica, at least I know now. Do I know everything about Tarot - no, but who does? Cards have so many different meanings, depending on so many different things. Sometimes I feel more "Crowley" sometimes more "RWS" (according to Miss Tarot Police the typical "feminin" women in Tarot history. But do I know what a card means in a particular reading - I fu....ing do so. I do use traditional decks as well as modern ones, and it happens that I read a "modern" card in a traditional meaning and vice versa. As soon as you can only see and read "what their meant to be according to Book XYZ from Person ABC" - you completely take out everything Tarot stands for. When there is one correct way to read Tarot cards, how comes that there are so many different Tarot decks, so many different influences that are part of Tarot or "define" Tarot (Kabbalah, Ancient Egypt, Astrology, ....). Not everyone wants to learn or know the tarot, not everyone wants your guidance on their spiritual practice. If people book a reading with you they want to hear your perspective or translation or message or answer to the question they hired you for. If the question is “am I on the right spiritual path?” Then fine but honestly what people want to buy as a reading is nunya business. That’s between the client and their chosen reader wherever that reading is. Im surprised she didn’t try to convince people that you need face to face live zoom or in person readings only. Maybe if people just focused on what they need to do for their clients and not what other readers are doing or not doing that they don’t like this would be a better thing.
