Also, citrine is fluorescent. So another good way to tell if you have citrine is place it under a black light and it should glow a green. Pretty awesome. Fake "citrine" or heated amethyst will not be fluorescent.

For example, citrine quartz is inert to fluorescence due to the presence of iron, which eliminates fluorescence. If you are testing a yellow stone that may potentially be a citrine, and it fluoresces orangey-yellow under LWUV and red under SWUV, it cannot be a citrine and is more likely to be a scapolite

Instead of using a flame directly too a possibly fake stone u could heat a needle and touch it to the stone. If it’s fake u should see burning or melting. Learned that on another video about finding fake turquoise

I buy antique and vintage jewellery with various stones or crystals. It drives me to distraction not knowing if a stone is real or glass. Plastic is easy - I do the burn test. But crystal vs glass is difficult to tell apart. Great video.

Wow, now I'm really thankful I found this vid. I'm a rock hound by nature and I like to go to shows. I ended up buying what I thought was citrine with the assumption: "Citrine is just quartz, so if it looks quartz, I'm good." Boy am I so wrong. Thanks for the help!

Hi from Portugal! Honestly just want to say thank you. i buyed some Malachite. when came home and saw your video realise the stone was actually super fake. Next day in the morning I returned the stones and I was nice because maybe the supplier cheated the store. But the ladies from the shop treated me so badly and were so arrogant. At least I already know where not to buy. ;)

Love this! I just purchased some crystals today and one of them was heat treated amethyst. I knew a little bit about heat treated amethyst being posed as citrine in a lot of metaphysical shops, but when I bought it, I wasn't really paying attention to the fact that it was not genuine citrine. I'm assuming that it will still have the same metaphysical properties as natural citrine, I hope :) I still find it to be very beautiful and I'm excited to connect with my crystals!

Yay this is sooo helpful! Malachite can be pretty expensive and I understand why as it’s one of my favorites, so pretty. I hadn’t even realized there was fake malachite out there! I guess people will fake anything to make some money. Citrine fakes are so hard to spot sometimes! I didn’t know it doesn’t grow in a cluster! Dark Lemon quartz and really light Smokey Quartz look really similar to natural quartz sometimes. This is really helpful info! Wow I had no idea how often turquoise is faked 😱 This is so awesome! 💕☺️👍💗

First let me just say that you were very knowledgeable and awesome in the way that you were able to give a great deal of information in an easy to understand manner. It would be really great if you could do a video on fake watermelon tourmaline and also fake phantom Ghost quartz and also shaman quartz. I have been researching heavily recently because I have been trying to buy a raw watermelon tourmaline necklace and one of the things that I discovered about quartz is the fact that one of the easy ways to tell or suspect that it might be fake is any inclusions or growth lines in a natural quartz crystal they will be horizontal if they are vertical it's almost a guarantee that the stone is fake. And another thing is all of the caveats there are regarding moldavite. Very powerful Stone as I understand it. And that's another thing that can be an indicator for fake moldavite is the"moldavite flush" it's a warm feeling that you get from touching or holding or interacting with moldavite and you need to be careful because it can make you lightheaded dizzy people have been known to hit the floor and pass out. But even though people react to Crystals differently, most people get at least some flush reaction from it even if it's minor, if you have a Stone that you are holding or maybe are just standing close to and you're not getting any reaction whatsoever then check your stone for other indicators that it's fake. Other information that it would be helpful to know, especially with the market being so flooded with fakes and with so much buying of crystals happening online, what is a good way to broach the subject of authenticity with the seller, and also what do you do if you receive your stone and you take it you haven't looked at and they tell you it's a fake I've never really dealt with that you know on eBay or Etsy or whatever actually I take that back I dealt with it on Etsy yesterday but what do you do if you receive it and then discover you know you get it appraised and and fake and I was reading yesterday that they're actually are a lot of reputable sellers who really just did not know that what they were selling was fake because there's so many fakes out there and many it's even difficult for the experts to tell at first glance whether a stone is fake. I have been learning so much

Hii! I am super new to crystals and stones. Super excited to continue learning about them. I would love if you do a fake versus real aquamarine! I just recently bought a bunch of raw and tumbled stones that now make me curious some of them are real or fake. After watching some of your videos I’ve discovered that I have a lot heated amethyst. So basically all of my citrine I own is not actually citrine. And I just recently ordered for a rhodochrosite “as labeled” when I purchased it …And after I watched your video I went back to The Etsy account I was ordering it off of and by the look of it, I’m pretty sure that I’m getting rhodonite. So thank you for doing these videos they are super helpful for as I move forward and buy more crystals. I will never buy another crystal again without doing the proper research. And one more thing if it’s heated treated amethyst and not citrine does it carry the properties of amethyst?

I bought 2 tumbled Citrine stones a long time ago and I gave 1 to my mom. I just found out its not Citrine, its Heated Amethyst lol. I paid $6 they are small stones. On Monday my order from Etsy arrived and I bought 2 different Citrine crystals, 1 actually looks like the one you showed in the pictures, it has a big point w/ smaller ones around it and it's a bit of a smoky color. When I hold it up to the light it looks a bit more yellow. I also got one thats polished and its a light yellow and its very clear. I got another one awhile ago and it has a bit more yellow color then the bigger pointed one (w/the smaller points around it). They are suppose to be from 2 different areas, the one w/ the bigger pint is from Brazil and the smaller one thats a bit more yellow is from the Congo. They look like real Citrine to me so I really do hope that are real lol. Also thank you so much for all the detailed info on how to identify fake crystals. It will help a lot off ppl save they're money lol 🙏😊

Thanks for this eye opening video 👆❤ I don`t know very much about crystals, but I belive I have to do my homework before buying. Really hard when even the price isn`t always the indicator, like you said.

My bf thought his turquoise pendant wasn’t real bc it was more green than blue....it has gold flakes & uneven cracks so I am confident it’s real!! Sadly a bracelet he gave me with turquoise beads are way too uniform in color & have tiny cracks :( hopefully it’s at least howlite not plastic, thanks for the great information!

There's a stone called variscite (mined in Utah) that looks like turquoise except that it's green. It's pretty rare. A gemologist could tell you for sure what you have. Also if you hold a match or lighter to the back of the turquoise, real won't melt or burn. Fake will

I've been wondering how most people have been able to price their crystals so low and I had my suspicions but after this it confirms that a lot of people selling crystals online are fakes.

There could be a few reasons why people price Crystal low! Number one they bought in bulk so they were able to get a larger discount! Number two there markup is lower and they’re not making as much money! Number three they could absolutely be fake

2:33 hahaha that made me chuckle 🤣 also, thanks so much for this video 😍 my dad bought me a “Virgo crystal box” for Christmas. It’s SUPER cute and I love it so much. But I noticed a spelling error on one of the crystal descriptions 😅 which.. of course I noticed immediately.. I’m a Virgo 💀 lmaooooo. But it made me skeptical about some of the pieces. Luckily, they’re all in raw form and seem to all be genuine 🥰 I’ve been purchasing crystals for shit.. 12 years?? Definitely over a decade. It was after my “spiritual awakening” in 2011-2012ish??? Fakes seem to generally be easy to spot with some common knowledge/experience with crystals.. which makes me super happy! I’d definitely be sad af if I ever found out any of mine were fake lol they basically have their own personalities to me at this point 🤣 some I’ve had for over a decade!! And I’ve had truly incredible and unexplainable “protective” experiences from them. I joke that a citrine (just getting to that part in this video 😍) of mine has saved my life a couple of times lmaooo.. as well as a black tourmaline. I never leave my house without those two in my car 🤣 And don’t mind me.. just binging all your ‘spotting fake crystal’ videos rn so if I comment on a buncha old ones, you know why lolol

Ahhh! I started getting SO nervous about the citrine from the virgo box I commented about.. it’s totally genuine 😍😍😍 I got nervous cause I googled raw citrine and soooo many had the white base. Mine doesn’t 🎉 all the genuine pieces you showed is what mine looks like. Learning so much from these videos.. you’re awesome!! ♥️

Thank you so much for the helpful video! I have a citrine bangle that I think it might be a heated up amethyst, so would it have the function as an amethyst or citrine? Thanks!
