Such a great video. So many gems of knowledge on this channel.

Outstanding instruction, Mr. Cheung! For me, early extension has been the biggest 'killer' in my game over the years...

This is excellent since I feel I have a tendency of a squat and then rotate
@gregorystevens51733 жыл бұрын
What do you mean by "pelvis at the ball"? @2:30 Does that mean that we should hold (and not rotate) the lead side section of the pelvis closest to the target while we squat and rotate? And, if so, hold it until when? Do we push into the ground when our hands are on top of our right hip, or just before, or just after?

I wasn't exactly sure what he meant either. I wish he would have responded to your inquiry. It looks like he's doing what I see demonstrated on other videos when instructors mention "covering the ball" at impact.

Is there a Drill we can use to practice this feel?

New to your channel via TXG with Ian and Matt. Wondering how the squat and rotate works if you have a knee replacement on your trail leg? Any thoughts? Thanks!

you should consult someone that you trust, your case is very specific and it would be dangerous to try random videos on youtube =)

This is good advice. I find I have a tendency to squat while finishing the backswing (it feels like I’m really loading up my trail leg). But maybe I’ll try this out a bit. It’s nice having a driving range bay at home! : )

Hey Larry, do I apply this technique to driver swing as well? One more question, do you swing the iron club just like hockey swing? Can you cover this part as well?
@LarryCheungGolf3 жыл бұрын
you can do this for all full swings but not sure what you mean about hockey swing =P

@@LarryCheungGolf Thanks for your replay. I was not sure whether I was supposed to throw the head towards the ball or pushing the ball with the entire shaft (like when you hit the puck with a hockey stick). Hmm.. I am not sure if I am explaining it right. I really like your lessons and am trying to follow all the way.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on the start of the downswing. Right now I’m massively struggling with that. Either I snatch it and react to the weight of the club behind me resulting in hooks or I end up hitting hold off fades. Which is playable, but it’s not right!! Good video

For someone who hits from the top, how can we get rhe "hit" impulse out to even try squat and rotate ?
@cdunne1620 Жыл бұрын
..well that’s a mind problem. At transition think of your hands initially moving AWAY from the target and down, this move should be forceful. You will find you have more time and will be less steep. Do this squat move then after a few weeks practice and see how you go. The swing is circular, if you try to go in a straight line to the ball with your hands you’re in trouble..

If you squat and rotate does that give you a spiral move?
@LarryCheungGolf3 жыл бұрын
not sure what you mean by spiral move =)
@kevochanner88593 жыл бұрын
@@LarryCheungGolf well if you move down and around at the same time you create a spiral movement. As you said you can’t move down and then around they must flow together.

When squatting in matter of initiating the downswing to turn better; doesn’t it bring the point of contact lower? Ain’t this making us hit behind the ball?
@LarryCheungGolf2 жыл бұрын
this in itself will not make you hit behind the ball =)
@cdunne1620 Жыл бұрын
.. yes that’s what I found but you can adjust by not grounding your club at address like Jack Nicklaus used to do. I find that at transition if my initial hand motion is away from the target forcefully then I don’t introduce any slack into the swing with the squat move which prevents fat shots
@thelukos3 жыл бұрын
Hi, I just subscribed and am enjoying your videos. If we squat as we rotate, won’t we lose height so our head won’t stay the address position?
@LarryCheungGolf3 жыл бұрын
losing height is fine =)

After getting my right hip back, if I torque my right foot properly, like you say, my left knee and hip seem to clear automatically. If not happening that day, I try to feel that anyway. Great stuff.

Larry, this is so close to being really good! So few coaches even try to put across the big truth you tell here: that all the various 'moves' and 'positions' of the golf swing are nothing unless blended together in the right amounts and the right sequence. 90% of instruction vids are about 1 particular move or position and probably do more harm than good as people (try to) just do that one thing and forget what else has to happen to make it work, so probably over-do the move and end up with a different fault. Around 3.15 you recognise that it's hard to be precise about the 'blend' because everyone is different. Fair enough...but could you give some drills for people to test what works for them. I'm thinking something like getting them to pull a rope up from the floor and testing what amount of leg push and trunk rotation they find exerts the most force at the right moment.
