What type of rod holders are those? I’m new to down rigging and I just picked up a set of penn’s. Looks like a perfect way to hold the rods

These are Berkley rod holders. I had to cut a piece of bike tubing to put around the downrigger boom so the rod holder wouldn't rotate, but it works pretty well. It is kind of a close fit with the cable going by the rod holder, but it works. Thanks for watching.

*We tried this out finally yesterday and it worked awesome! **enjoyable.fishing** recommend it’s we put it on our 16 foot aluminum boat and trolled with it. We didn’t catch anything but it was still fun and worked awesome! Can’t wait to use this baby again and hopefully reel in a big ole fish! Very easy to install and set up.*

No it ain't, attach one rod to the cannonball, buy a second release meant for that purpose, drop the canonball down how many ft you want them apart, attach second line, go to desired depth

What are the chances of tangle if the fish strikes the bottom lure?

Alex Matysiak Hi Alex, sorry about the late response. I have been elk hunting the past few days. Your chances of a tangle are a lot higher if you have a lot of line out behind the boat. If you are only fishing 10-20 foot set backs, I get a tangle maybe one out of fifteen fish. However, if you are fishing with a lot of line behind the boat, say 100 feet, then it can be as high as one out of three will tangle. Keep your set backs short to avoid this problem. You're making this way too complicated. 1) let out your line to the desired distance (farther out than your top line). 2) Start dropping the ball. 3) Anywhere between 10 - 40 ft length, attach your stackers. I use Cannon's, it's a snap with 2 clips. Close the clip, attach one clip to the DR cable.let your line out, 1/2 the distance of the bottom line to the desired depth of the bottom lure. No Shuttle Hawk. We use this setup in the PNW a lot. The bottom line for the large rainbows, lakers, landlocked salmon, etc. The top line is for smaller trout but more specifically Kokanee

Ya, but when you catch a fish on the top line, you have to bring everything back up. The shuttle hawk saves you from having to do that and re-set everything.

THE MOUNTAINLIFE, nope you don't. You have another snap that's connected to a metal shower curtain ring with about 2 - 3 oz of lead and you drop it down. When it hits the stacked clip, it stops. You can't tighten the line up as much, but you really don't need to. Never have to bring up the main ball until you get hit by a big trout or salmon that you're targeting with the bottom ball.
