Great share for those wanting to learn the ropes for a show dog. My Dogo Argentino tends to sit and go on her back for a belly rub, guessing I'll have to go under her belly to get to her feet for stacking. Hope we can have an interactive session for potential issues while training myself and my pup on stacking.

Thanks so mcuh for a very informative and easy to folllow video! I have to teach my boy this ready for his next show. Next we need to work on him being touched by male judges. Any advice?
@sandollaraussies3 жыл бұрын
Sorry I completely missed this! I would take him to a store and have random men give him treats and a pet. Then when he’s comfortable with that, take to a show and have men examine him. Start with very fast exams just touching the topline and slowly increase the intensity/length of exam. Also alternate between men and woman so it’s not all scary!

Could you share what type and brand of lead you have on her in the video? It looks like a chain collar with a nylon lead, but curious if it’s one piece or something else. Looking for good show accessories for my new Aussie as he and I both learn how to compete in conformation!

Sorry I completely missed your comment! It is two pieces. A chain choker and a nylon lead with beads. Both I buy at vendors at the show but you can find online as well.

How do you get your dog to stay this calm to stack? Mines would swirl and twirl, flip and fall if I try. By the time I get to the right legs she’s already moved
@sandollaraussies2 жыл бұрын
Teaching a solid stay first and get some energy out before training if they are too excited. Start by stacking one leg, tell them stay, and reward after a few seconds if they stay. Slowly lengthen the time and add the other legs
@jinx59942 жыл бұрын
I’m learning but what collar are you using ?
@sandollaraussies2 жыл бұрын
It’s a small slip or choke chain they call it. Here’s a video that has more info on the collar and less options: kzbin.info/www/bejne/govQd2WegJKHqtE

What do I do if my dog moves and wiggles everytime I try to stack her or once I get her front then move to the back she moves her front end again
@sandollaraussies5 ай бұрын
Work on a basic stay command and everytime you place a foot tell her to stay. Also start just picking up and placing the feet super fast (even not in the right place) so she learns to stay when you place feet. Slowly work up to the right placement and holding for longer periods of time.

Do you have recommendations for the best way to teach a puppy to stack?
@sandollaraussies5 жыл бұрын
Yes! I’ve thought about making a video for this too once I have a puppy that needs to learn. First teach them the concept of stay. Once they know that, start by stacking just the front feet and don’t worry about if the placement is correct yet. Literally just pick up foot, place anywhere, say stay, wait a few seconds and reward. Gradually increase the time of the stay and placing the feet in the right place. Make sure you don’t have food in your hand or they will wiggle around to get it. Any time they move a foot, say “no” or whatever your correction sound is and put that foot back to where it was. A solid stay command is important first! Good luck!! 😉

Great video!!! Where can I get a thin lead like that?
@sandollaraussies4 жыл бұрын
I got mine at the dog show vendor Paws & Tails but there are a lot of online places and Facebook groups to find them too if you search for dog show lead.
@saimy86363 жыл бұрын
One thing I learned is that, you can bring the lead around your neck depending on the dog, and hold the head when you are stacking.
@sandollaraussies3 жыл бұрын
Yes depends on the breed. That is common mostly in sporting breeds but not for Aussies. Normally that is done when you want to extend the neck forward instead of up.
@mitty81453 жыл бұрын
do you have advice for teaching a puppy to stack? I heard that the breeder has to begin training them from as soon as they can walk! i'm not really looking to show just more for learning (if i show in the future) and getting some nice growth pics!
@sandollaraussies3 жыл бұрын
Breeder doesn’t have to start but it does help. I’d suggest getting stacking blocks to train on. And also teach stay first so that when you place the feet and say stay, they actually hold still for the photo!
@nguyenducminh632 жыл бұрын
May I ask where to start with dog stacking? can you share the steps?
@sandollaraussies2 жыл бұрын
The first step is to teach stay so that when you do start to stack, your dog stays put. Start by picking up and placing one foot only and waiting a few seconds before rewarding. Slowly increase the time and add in more feet until you can successfully place all 4 without your dog moving.
@nguyenducminh632 жыл бұрын
@@sandollaraussies Thank you. So I practice on the ground first and then on the table, right?
@sandollaraussies2 жыл бұрын
You should practice wherever you will be stacking your dog in the ring whether that is ground or table. On the ground if you’re dog is too wiggly, you can start with the table first
@kaidaureten96604 жыл бұрын
Is this for all dog breeds or just this specific breed?

Ive wanted a Aussie for so long, im wondering what type yours is? Standard, mini, toy? If its a standard they're not that big but still big
@sandollaraussies4 жыл бұрын
She is on the small side but an Australian Shepherd. By AKC there is only one size of Aussie. The “mini” is a Miniature American Shepherd and there is no recognized toy breed.

What do you do if your dog keeps posting 😢
@sandollaraussies Жыл бұрын
You can try luring them forward with a treat or train with stacking blocks. On the blocks if you push them lightly backwards, they should bring themselves forward to avoid falling off and come out of the post.
