This might get lost, but to whoever see's this, I'm saving you money with this tip! Pool filter sand is a nice cheap alternative for aquarium sand, as long as it's 100% silica, no additives. I found a 50lb bag of pool filter sand at a local lowe's for 5 dollars. 50 pounds of sand, for 5 dollars! Granted you can really only get one color, and it's a natural tan colored sand, but definitely a steal, the brand I recommend is quikrete pool filter sand, they make other things, but the plain pool filter sand is what you'd be looking for. Anywhos, happy fish keeping!~

my favorite thing to do while cycling my tank was to drop food in front of other people so they would ask what was I doing and I said ".... I'm feeding the fish" they would look at me like I was crazy because they were no fish 10/10 recommend

Absolutely INCREDIBLE tutorial on freshwater aquariums. I recently wanted to get into the hobby and have been watching videos nonstop for 2 days, but this video includes every single tip and trick all the other videos have said in a very structured way, while including more information I've yet to hear. You did an incredible job formatting this video and anyone who is looking to start a tank will be very fortunate to stumble upon this gem. Bravo!

Another good tip if you don't want a huge mess on the bottom when cycling your tank: You can use a fine mesh bag and put the fish food in there. It will still decompose, but you don't have to worry about so much of a mess! Great video by the way!

Hey Tyler! Great video! Though I would like to add that while aquariums are expensive to start, once they are up and running they can be a really cheap to maintain. Additionally, there are cheaper ways to start aquariums. For instance, you could use an FDA/USDA approved tote for a tank or build your own filter! These small DIY projects can save you hundreds of dollars and can be a lof fun! If anyone is interested in these ideas, there are a lot of aquatic KZbinrs who go step by step in their videos. Like King of DIY, Aquarium Co-Op, and Challenge the Wild. Sorry for the long comment, but I love seeing animal KZbinrs make fish related content! :)

I had a customer some months ago who kept asking questions about fish (mind you, I work in the cosmetic department, overstocking). Saying he had no clue about fishes as pets. I felt so helpless and just wanted to sass back “then y r u even getting fish!? do ur own research” but I just handed him off to a supervisor who couldn’t even answer his questions either. I can’t thank you enough for giving in depth information. Every little detail is just.. thank you. Thank you. Thaaaaaannnnnkkkkk youuuuuuu. Now I can let my customers know little basics about the freshwater, tropical fresh water, and so on. Ooh, and to not recommend smaller tanks. I thought that was the most interesting; about the smaller the tank, the more it’s prone to be harder work to keep clean. If I had 5 thumbs.. 👍👍👍👍👍 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thanks so much for making this video, it so informative! A lot of people are misinformed about fish, so this is seriously helpful. The only thing I would like to add is that even if your tank is under stocked, you should probably do a 20% water change at least every two weeks, I wouldn’t suggest doing it once a month. But other than that this video is very accurate! So thank you again for making this video, hopefully people see this before they get a fish tank! ❤️

For goldfish they can live in anywhere between the 60s to the low 80s they can handle a variety of temperatures. It is not recommended to keep goldfish in cold water all the time but only seasonally. Than you will need to increase the temp to mimic seasons. :) great video Tyler!! :)

Omg this is so helpful, I’ve been looking all over the Internet for a useful video or site to help me understand how to set up a fish tank correctly and successfully. I’m considering getting white cloud minnows, or neon tetras, or a beta fish however unfortunately I only have a 5 gallon / 21 litre aquarium so that will probably make things more difficult for me. Maybe one day I will be lucky enough to upgrade my aquarium to a larger one?
@kasspin9563 жыл бұрын
Speaking from experience betas are very hardy fish as long as you feed them sparingly ( no more than twice a day) and keep their tank clean. If you really want to put the 5 gallon tank to good use you could use it as a quarantine tank until your official tank is set up. Granted it ain’t recommended and it’s equivalent to living at a motel 6 until you move into a single family home but it is an option if you really want it to be.

For goldfish, it’s recommended to have gph of 10x the amount of gallons instead of 4x. I have 10x on all of my tanks and that works well for me
@SpockBlocked6 жыл бұрын
YAS! Thank you! Goldfish are messy little monsters haha
@briannaharter44116 жыл бұрын
Gph doesn't matter that much. What really matters is how much filter media a filter can hold.cause the more surface area the more beneficial bacteria and the faster the waste is process.bonous points if you add something like pothos to the filter cause it absorbs some of the waste as well. Also for goldfish's their size their bio load is relatively light compared to similar sized fish cause they eat all their food and aren't messy eaters(leaves bites of unbeaten food).they are just big fish with big poops.

guppies are brackish fish so they are a pretty common type of tank. :} nice birdies!!! and the idea of air pumps providing oxygen into the water is a bit off. dissolved oxygen comes from the surface agitation, and is more often provided by fresh water changes than any type of filter, the bubbles are basically just for show and having them pop at the surface gets a bit more oxygen in, but no more than a top filter would
