I wont get into the details of a chainsaw accident by a logger of some 30 years experience but it did make a mess of his face. I am no safety pundit but I implore anyone operating a chainsaw to get the proper safety gear...this goes for operating hand held grinders with cutting discs as well. Make sure your day ends well.

For those of you who bought a Stihl MS-250 and are having a serious melt down trying to start it, then try this. Never ever wait for this saw to "Pop" or to fire on full choke setting like every other two stroke you have owned. First, move the start/choke lever to the full choke position. Second, pull the starter rope no more than two times no matter what, some saws you only need to pull on the full choke setting once. Third, move the lever to the partial choke setting and pull. It should "Pop" or fire. If not, then pull it again on the partially choke setting. Never put the choke back to the full choke setting or the saw may never start. That's basically the starting point for all 250's. Look to the blog page on the Stihl web site. Unfortunately, this saw has high compression, with no compression release like the bigger saws, so you have to attack the starting rope like your life depends on it. Now that I have my own 250 starting combination, it is a great mid size and a dream to handle. Good luck.

Excellent! And thank you! Funny story, after we made this video, I thought I was a pro, and went to use the saw after a few days, and I couldn't figure it out, so I watched my own video! Lol. I really like both saws, and carry my Milwaukee around in my Zero-Turn mower to cut limbs that are right at eye level. Very handy to just press the trigger and go, but it can't run all day like the MS250! Have a great weekend.

Madison did a great job of explaining and showing how to start the saw. Where did you buy the saw. ? It snowed a little here today. Nothing gathered on the ground thou. 👍🏻👍🏻👋👋

No! No ❄️ We bought it from our local Richie feed & seed store as they are a Stihl dealer.

👋👋👍🏻👍🏻. And you have to use the fuel from them during the warranty period. ?
@RossOnTheLand8 ай бұрын
You should use the stihl fuel just to be safe. after the warranty use whichever fuel as long as it is mixed. the warranty is usually 1 year but can be extended with purchase of different combinations of fuel and such. it is also dependent on the model and if it is commercial use or home

Battery power has gotten so much better but it’s just not quite there yet.
@RossOnTheLand8 ай бұрын
Absolutely agree, I've been on a battery chainsaw for 4 years, but I fall behind a bit more each year so I needed a little extra to catch up. Still an amazing saw for odds and ends, just not for taking down and processing about 20 trees I need to do this summer.

Nice purchase Ross, Madison should work at the Stilh dealership, she did a great job 👍🏻. I find my Milwaukee great but like you said it's not fast and we are limited. How do you like the new Forge battery ? as good or better than the 12amp?
@RossOnTheLand8 ай бұрын
Hi Luc, Yes she should :) I'm proud of her! The Forge battery is my new favourite, it lasts longer than my 12mAh now as it's getting... "Tired"
@OrangeismyNewGreen8 ай бұрын
@@RossOnTheLand Good to know because my 12 is dead 🥴, I wasn't impressed with it. Batteries aren't cheap 🤦🏼♂🤷🏼♂🥴
@RossOnTheLand8 ай бұрын
I know exactly what you mean. The Forge is cheaper than the 12 so that's good, and this way having a dedicated chainsaw I won't be killing the battery we need in the shop, and the saw was almost the same prices as a new battery! So no brainer. Plus the Stihl chain is better suited for longer runs between sharpening
@OrangeismyNewGreen8 ай бұрын
@@RossOnTheLand Did you get it at B&T and if you don't mind me asking how much?
@RossOnTheLand8 ай бұрын
No I got it at Richie Feed and Seed, and it's around the $400 Canadian mark. It's light strong, and perfect for our age group 😀

Until we get a new battery system we will always fall behind when it comes to heavier duty electrical stuff vs gas. But for smaller to medium jobs battery sure holds its place with the ease of mobility and not having to think about having gas set aside.

Absolutely! I just cut down and limbed a big tree, and glad I had the Stihl. Now I can switch to the battery for branch cleanup. Battery has its place as you said. Thanks for watching

It looks like the Milwaukee has no bucking spikes, the chain was quite dull and you never dropped the handle to give the thing a chance. Vertical cutting like that will never go well, you have almost no leverage to drive the chain into the cut. The Stihl was brand new, so brand new chain and you used the spikes and dropped the handle - not really a fair comparison. Might I add, full head/face protection, steel toe boots and chaps will help keep your doctor a stranger. Its better that way.
@RossOnTheLand27 күн бұрын
Hello, you are absolutely correct on all but one point. The Milwaukee does have bucking spikes.. or more like a little dinner fork 😁 but totally agree with everything you mentioned. I appreciate the comment, and your observations, and safety level. I am gathering the proper PPE. Have a great day and Merry Christmas.

I like Milwaukee tools, but throw that electric chain saw away. Grab your MS 250 to do your wood cutting chores. You will not destroy the planet by using a gas powered saw. By the way I too have a MS 250 and I love that little saw.
