As a long time Tau player my experience in how to play them usually comes down to two options. Form a gun line that sits back and watches helplessly while the enemy sits on the midfield objectives and gains an insurmountable early point lead. Alternatively, rush to seize the midfield objectives, promptly die to enemy melee, then watch helplessly while the enemy sits on the objectives and gains an insurmountable point lead.

My recent tactic as a new player in general against my veteran player friend, was dropping a full meme army of "Only Suits" onto the board which involved 2 ghostkeels taking the side objectives each supported by a riptide and 2-Team of Broadsides each, while the mid obj was rushed by 2 crisis suit units supported by a single broadside i threw in to fill the point gap. Then, luckily got 2 secondaries that involved NML first turn. By end of Round 2, I had a 40 point lead. Then missed 90% of my railgun shots to bad luck. He even said if they'd gone through, I'd have won.

Deepstrike behind enemy lines as retaliation cadre with crisis suits equipped with 2 flamers each and commander farsight. Get within 6 inches to get the buff from retaliation cadre. With the bonus to wound and plus 1 ap you can shred through even mid tier infantry. Meanwhile have a devilfish with breachers push up from the front and pincer your opponent.

A bit of advice, if you're looking to play T'au right now I would recommend buying two of the current T'au Combat Patrol. With the exception of the Ethereal you will 100% want to use every unit in that box.

Step 1: get some Crisis Suits. Step 2: get some more Crisis Suits. Step 3: get MORE Crisis Suits Step 4: Consider if you need more Crisos Suits, then get some more Crisis Suits. Step 5: Go to sleep after getting more Crisis Suits. Step 6: Wake up and realize you STILL DONT HAVE ENOUGH CRISIS SUITS. GET MORE CRISIS SUITS.

You can have up to 27 normal ones in a detachment (9 units), and up to 6 commanders. Don't forget to magnetize the weapons in case T'au's rules get changed again :-)

Just started picking up tau. Unfortunately in canadian dollars it's pretty much 1 point a dollar. So far I have the current cp, 2 broadsides,a hammerhead and a stormsurge. I look forward to building it all as I love the look of these things. But any recommendations from tau players are helpful. As a side note, how do I use the referral? You don't have to glue most of the drone pieces, you can actually take them apart and rebuild them as a different type really easily. Also get magnets.

It’s a good box, but I’m not sure I’d get more than one of them due to the pathfinders. Pathfinders are fantastic, but they are weak so I’m not sure running two units would be good. It’s worth playing around with. I have two of the current box and I like the flexibility. While strike teams aren’t the strongest units in the game the ethereals with the guardian drones make them surprisingly tanky. And the possibility of a CP is nice.

depending on which crisis unit you go for, it looks like you are lacking some heavier firepower. you can get a broadside for 110pts or a hammerhead for 130

Try getting a combat patrol box. The one I bought is like 70% of my army excluding crisis suits and broadsides. I recommend reading up the rules for each character in a box to see if you want it. (I'm sure you can find an older box to your liking too)

I don't like the enforcer cause in a unit the rest of the squad get reduced to his 8 inch move instead of the Coldstar giving everyone in the unit 12 inch movement

@@CaptainSkylocke But it reduced AP by 1, so effectively always gives cover bonus, and it's cheaper. So I've started using them for my farther ranged teams and throwing coldstar only on flamer/fusion teams. Not to mention, in a Mont'ka detachment, that assault keyword Coldstar gives is redundant in the first 3 rounds, which is usually the most decisive anyways.
