Could you go over taxes for wedding videographers?
@ClutchFirst9 жыл бұрын
The vids are getting better and better with each and every upload. Really informative and helpful tips. Again, I don't shoot Wedding films. However, I do appreciate the knowledge being shared. Thank you!

Why would a bride using a credit card be a red flag?
@UvfilmsNet9 жыл бұрын
+Joshua Booth Studios i was wondering the same thing.
@healyeoin9 жыл бұрын
The risk of a chargeback I would guess. You give them their video, they put in a complaint and get their money back. A lot of hassle to fight it through the credit card company, who will also initially side with the customer.

+Joshua Booth Studios If I was spending $5000 with someone I had never used before, I would want the protection a Credit card gave me if YOU went bust before my wedding
@healyeoin9 жыл бұрын
+SNORKYMEDIA The risk is greater for the videographer. You could deliver the films to the client and they could still initiate a chargeback complaint. They have their video(s), you have no money. Also the client has the benefit of previous client referrals to weigh the risk of you not delivering. The videographer has very little in terms of the clients ability to settle the bill in full. Just because they have a credit card, doesn't mean they can actually afford you in the end.

In the Eurozone the whole SEPA introduction last year means bank transfers are pretty easy and seamless. No extra charges (for receiving anyway) and leaves a nice paper trail. This is our go to method.

I do computer repair work. I tend to prefer cash or bank transfers. I will accept PayPal reluctantly as well as verified cheques if I need to. While I plan to get a pos at this point I'd lose a lot more than I'd make through one unless I upped my labour fees... Which would lose me customers because I need to stay in a range or they're just going to buy a new computer or laptop.

currently I use Paypal. But they keep charging me 5% for every transaction!!! and now I just experienced an issue where the payment was disputed... I contacted my client to find out whats going on and he said they are experiencing an issues with their bank account... He send me the money from a different account and I thought We are even but no!! Paypal came into that game and charged me additional 43$ penalty fee for that dispute!!! Now I'm really mad! I thought its gonna be a piece of cake to reverse that penalty but no!! They say that Paypal do not reverse any penalties!! 5% made on each transaction is not enough anymore!! They need more money from Us!!! And they don't protect you as a seller!! Looks like everyone can take a money back after you'll deliver the service!! Stay away!!!!

This video is old old old but PayPal was and still is never the best way to take payments. Perhaps I'll make an updated video!
@TAPPChannel4 жыл бұрын
@@WeddingFilmSchool Yes... Make that video because they are full of shit!!! They let somebody to dispute the payment after 2months!! This way I can loose my incomes gained within last 6months!! And at the end if the day they charge me 43$ penalty fee for 535$ payment disputed! They charged me 5% payment fee at the first place and not additional 10% in penalty fees!! Looks like they know how to make a money!!

Off topic but how are you insuring yourself against potential lawsuits from unhappy clients? Thanks!
@cyrionwillems83169 жыл бұрын
+ayang315 I think if you write down the things that you have to deliver in an agreement and both parties agree with it, as long as you deliver what is agreed to they'll never win a lawsuit. It all comes down to being clear what is wanted from you, and you being clear what you can and can't do. You are the expert, you set the expectations.
@ayang3159 жыл бұрын
+Cyrion Willems thanks. I'm worried about things like errors and omissions. Weddings are live events and stuff goes wrong all the time.
@cyrionwillems83169 жыл бұрын
That's true, I guess only experience learns you to improvise when stuff goes wrong! ;) I'm lucky I live in Holland though, people are not as addicted to treating everybody with a nice lawsuit here!
@matthewleemoore9 жыл бұрын
+ayang315 Your contract should have a line in it that reads something like: "because a wedding is a live event and we agree that it can not be recreated for documenting purposes, we can not guarantee any specific shot, angle, or series of images..." If it has that line in it, then you shouldn't have any issues. I've shot over 100 weddings and only had a few issues where I didn't get a specific shot they were wanting. As a very last resort, I pointed them to the contract they signed, and they understood.

I've given a B&G 50% of their money back because they weren't happy. I believe I did everything I could have done (it was a stills gig, not video) but they weren't happy with the amount of pictures they received. This happened because non of their guests wanted to be photographed, and the B&G had stipulated that they wanted a number of candid shots of guests. Even with a 200mm lens, guests were clocking me and hiding their faces. It was so incredibly frustrating and from that moment on, I put a disclaimer in my contract that said if guests didn't;t want to be photographed, then it wasn't my responsibility.

Good video but the venmo info is wrong. You just aren't allowed to use a regular venmo account to accept payments (you need a business venmo account) And even that's not "illegal" but rather just a violation of venmo rules where they disallow such violating accounts and don't offer the seller any protections.
