Research from a study in the Journal of Applied Physiology (Bakovic et al, 2003) reported it takes just 5 challenging breath-holds over 30 seconds to cause a contraction of the spleen by 20%. Increasing the oxygen carrying capacity of the blood by 2.8 to 9.6%. The effect lasting for around 1 hour before those additional red blood cells get re-absorbed back by the spleen.
There are many other benefits to breath-holding, find out more and follow along practising some breath-holds with me (Jacko) in this LIVE class recording.
