I would like to learn to enjoy coffee. I've always hated the taste. I've enjoyed some like frappucinos from Starbucks but that's not coffee. I'd really like to drink coffee because it's cheaper and probably much more healthy than energy drinks. Especially since we have free coffee at my employer.
@Rydecoffeecoach3 жыл бұрын
Yes absolutely it's much healthier than energy drinks. I understand it's hard to get used to the taste but drink it for a week and your palate will adjust. It's hard if the coffee is not high quality (which still happens a lot. In Australia we are spoiled because most places make a good coffee.) The frappuccino from Starbucks have a lot of sugar in them but just start with what you can enjoy and then slowly reduce the sugars. Good luck!

Not drinking coffee makes me feel much more like a social outcast than not eating animal products. It's just weird seeing our society being obsessed with this drink when you can't even force down two sips without cringing. The bitter taste in coffee is so dominant I can't taste any of the natural flavors. It coats my whole mouth and I just feel disgusted.

Look, it's ok to still make coffee if you hate it, even when you're a barista, as long as your customers can give you feedback and you know what to do. But the question you need to ask is, why do you hate it? Do the other baristas like it? Make them one and ask them if it's acceptable. It is rare but I have known a few baristas who could make great coffee but didn't drink it. In the end, you need taste as the final way to adjust your settings to make better coffee. Without it, I think it's too hard. But keep chipping away at it and maybe in a couple of months you'll find the sweetness to it. 👌

I mean, you're doing great if you're drinking Caps so don't worry too much. If you're wanting to take the next step into purely black coffee then I would suggest finding a local cafe/Roastery that focuses on specialty coffee and offer single origin coffees above 80+ quality score, have a great machine (LM, Synesso, San Remo, Slayer etc.) Ask them to make you a long black (Americano) and maybe add a dash of milk if you can't face straight black. Choke it down for a week or two every day. This will get your palate to adjust past the initial shock of the intensity of pure Black coffee. I would say by the end of the first week you should be able to drop the splash of milk and then your tongue will identify the sweetness in the coffee. It's up from there! 🤞🤞🙌 Please let me know how you go. I might even do a video experimenting with getting people past milk. Oh another option is to do this but with filter coffees or cold brews which are much sweeter and less intense.

I used to be the person that ordered a mocha from Starbucks and then added 10 more sachets of brown sugar in it to enjoy it.... Yikes! Buuuut then I started working at Starbucks, and even though their coffee is mediocre at best (not just what you get in the cup but the beans as well), their habit of having their baristas do regular coffee tastings of straight up black coffee, made me get used to black unsweetened coffee and only then did I start to pick up on flavours and nuance in coffees. It has been an ever evolving journey ever since, browsing local roasteries and cafes for good coffee, up until a couple of months ago when I had my first espresso that I actually thoroughly enjoyed (no sugar added!). Now at home I have a V60 that I use to brew filter coffee with (for those who do not know its nothing complicated, its just a plastic cone for those who do not have a drip filter machine) and I get such flavors out of my beans that I would never have imagined! Yes, "specialty coffee" sounds pretentious, but if we all ditch over-roasted bitter supermarket coffee and turn to (preferably ethical and sustainable) specialty coffee, we will all be enjoying top quality without it having to be "special". ;)

Hey Erbil! There definitely are some instant coffees and Nescafe that will actually have milk solids in them, and that might be the smell you're experiencing. Sorry, I thought I already responded to your question! But depending on your budget I would look at the Breville Dual Boiler because, for it's price it's almost unbeatable when it comes to creating cafe quality coffee with ease of use and speed. kzbin.info/www/bejne/o3nLmpWIrZ12gLs For prep and clean up you can't beat the Breville. If you have more money at your disposal I would look at the Giotto Rocket but you're looking at double the price. I don't sell them nor do I have any affiliation with Breville and I don't like the Barista Express at all but the BES920 is a great machine. For a grinder I would recommend the Breville Smart grinder pro as a base option or a Baratza sette 270 for something really nice. I can't say which beans you should get in the US as I haven't tried them, but I've heard great things about Onyx coffee. I think it will just be a trial and error thing until you find the coffee that suits your palate, but just use the price as a guide (general rule of thumb is the more expensive the better quality). Also, don't worry if you say Expresso instead of Espresso. It's not something that offends me. :)

Oh you're not doing anything wrong. I'd say you're doing everything right but you've got the wrong coffee still. Look for a quality score over 82, if they don't have a number on it, it usually means it's under 80 and might not be quality enough. Ask for a medium roast. In the US you have a lot of different names for every stage of roasting so it could be difficult finding the right roast but closest to medium-light is the best for sweetness and low bitterness. If you like you can buy some coffee from me and I'll ship it to you. 👌

I feel like I need the caffeine honestly. Not a morning person, having a source of caffeine would be great to make me actually feel awake. But I’ve _never_ liked coffee. I think it might be due to the fact that I can’t smell. Smell makes up a majority of what we perceive as taste, so not being able to smell therefore means my taste is different. And coffee has always had what I can only describe as a strange aftertaste that I simply don’t like. I don’t know if I’ll ever find a coffee that doesn’t have that aftertaste.
@Rydecoffeecoach2 жыл бұрын
That's very sad to hear Ashton! Yes I would agree, the coffee smells are amazing and a big part of the experience. @Rydecoffeecoach2 жыл бұрын
Whereabouts are you located? If you're able to get hold of some specialty coffees (80+ quality score) you might find its so much sweeter than many black coffees on the market. That's just because the majority of the coffees around are quite low quality (~60-70s score) they are allowed to have more defects in the mix which make it taste like dirty socks. I have converted many people to (enjoying) pure black coffees by giving them a week of long blacks on 89+ scoring coffee but they did need a reason to do so (eg: lose weight, reduce milk intake, healthier liefstyle etc). I agree, it probably wont be something you'd do just for the enjoyment because with milk, the coffee does taste sweeter and smoother.

Peachy, I think the best way to approach the k-cups is to find a reusable pod so you can add your own coffee into it.
