Kate and Mark, great starter phrases. The one new for me and a very good one is 'What´s that made of'?'' Thanks and blessingd.
@highlevellistening6 ай бұрын
Good question! "What's that made of?" is asking about the material, maybe a t-shirt, jacket or some clothes. A: "I love your dress, what's that made of?" B: "It's silk actually." For food: "What's [in it]?" : "What's [in that]?" A: "That looks delicious. What's in that?" B: "It's a lentil soup with lots of cilantro." Hope that helps!

Great videos, sorry teachers, just as story. The phrase " Where did you get it ? " Can be translated to Indonesian as "kamu dapat dari mana? " Meanwhile this phrase quite impolite since "dapat " must be changed with " beli " in complete " kamu beli di mana ?? or in English "where did you buy it ?? ". 😊😊, is it weird if we say that way??
@highlevellistening5 ай бұрын
That’s very interesting!! In this phrase “where did you get it” is more casual than “where did you buy it” and it’s more common to use “get” because “buy” feels a little more direct. That’s such a cool game! Where did you get it? Oh at Walmart, it’s on sale! Awesome, thanks! Hope that helps ☺️

can we say: where did you learn english? you speak fluently. it seemes that you master the language !
@highlevellistening6 ай бұрын
"Where did you learn English? You speak [really well]. [You've really mastered it]." That sounds a little more natural to me. But yes, a great idea and a lovely compliment!

I'm not an outgoing person and I find hard starting a conversation, but when the silence is really unconfortable, I just have to say something like "so, you said me your name is [name of the person]" or any nonses else hahahaha
@highlevellistening6 ай бұрын
Always a good idea! I hope the language in our classes helps you get through those silences!

Hi there! I'm Ian. and I'm Lisa. how do you do.
@highlevellistening6 ай бұрын
Good practice! However, I almost never say: "How do you do". It's curious how this phrase ends up in so many books, but we never say it! Instead: "How are you?" : "How's it going?" : "How are you doing?"
@abderrahmanekassi43026 ай бұрын
I agree with KAT . But instead to offer your food or drink ,you can suggest the other man to try it
@highlevellistening6 ай бұрын
That's absolutely fine as well, you could say something like: "You should try it." or "You should get one." or "You should order one."

Is it a bad Idea to text BRB to someone when you are over 40's?
@highlevellistening5 ай бұрын
Not at all! You can use this with people of any age, by now it's quite an 'old' abbreviation, so most English speakers of any generation will know it.
@abderrahmanekassi43026 ай бұрын
what will you do when starting a conversation the other answer only with: MM; UH ;MM
@highlevellistening6 ай бұрын
You can use one of our phrases for leaving the conversation at the end: "I think I see my friend over there, be right back!" That way you can leave them politely and find a more interesting conversation with someone else!

Hi. How's it going? " I heard you were from England." Does it mean you were from England and now you're not? 😂 Thanks a lot.
@highlevellistening6 ай бұрын
Good question! It's also correct to say : "I heard you [are] from England." Both sentences have exactly the same meaning. It's not about 'used to' or 'before. It's funny that we can use the past tense here. We can do this when we want to double-check or confirm something, and there are a few other times we do it in English. For example: "Did you say your name [was] James?" "Did you say you [were] from Manchester?" "Did you say you [liked] American Football?" "I heard you [spoke] Spanish." We are using the past tense, but we are checking if it's true *now*. You can also reply in the Present Tense: A: "Did you say your name [was] James?" B: Yes, my name [is] James. Nice to meet you." A: "Did you say you [liked] American Football?" B: "Yes, I [love] it!" I hope that makes sense!
@abbos_axiy6 ай бұрын
And at the end you said "You can also reply in Present Tense" , so can we reply in Past Tense as well ?
@highlevellistening6 ай бұрын
Good question. You should reply in the present tense no matter how they ask you :)

Hi l love you tutorials, but l fel lost when I have to use, aren't you. Isn't you 😢
@highlevellistening6 ай бұрын
It can be a tricky topic: "Aren't you" It's used in questions and tag questions when you expect the answer to be "yes." For example: "You are coming to the party, aren't you?" (I already expect that you are coming) "Aren't you the new manager?" (I already think you are the new manager) "Isn't it : Isn't he : Isn't she" is the same. For example: "This is the book you were looking for, isn't it?" "Maria is a great singer, isn't she?" Hope that helps!
