How to stay calm when dealing with depersonalization and derealization

I had this same thing happen to me, too hyper aware of myself, and stress myself out so much with anxiety that I actually couldn’t focus anymore which was the weirdest thing. I could read anymore because letters no longer made sense and it was scary but eventually I learned to close my eyes, meditate, listen to the outdoors or nothingness and learn to be okay with it and find peace in the silence

Just remember that there is nothing mentally or physically wrong with you when you feel symptoms of DP/DR, it's just your body's natural response to anxiety and/or chronic pain. You can overcome it eventually, you just have to learn to accept it per se; the sooner you do the sooner it dissipates. I speak from personal experience and I promise that it can be overcome. Don't consume too much caffeine either because it can exacerbate your anxiety and thus cause you to experience DP/DR.

This is exactly how I got rid of DPDR. It happens maybe once or twice a month now but it's controlled and I can get over it quickly.

This channel has been so helpful! Depersonalisation is wild. I got so scared because I couldn't imagine certain colors. Then the faint, dizzy grossness kicked in. I was housebound for 8 months, but I recently went all the way to the supermarket, and even had a friend over for three hours!!! It's the fear of panic attacks thats the big issue.

I'm also fighting the DPDR currently. It is really hard to act normal when you don't feel normal but even if the panic attack kicks in, please understand that it won't cause any harm to you and it will be gone soon. Imagine DPDR as a annoying little guy sitting on your shoulder. He will try to speak some bulkshit to you but you don't have to act on it! Just catch this words/thoughts. See them, but don't accept them as your own. It is just anxiety trying to put you into DPDR state once again. Hope this helps! Stay strong, God bless

@amsterdame Yeah going out was hard man, especially with my friends because i had to act normal when i didn't feel normal. But now i don't think about it and i just go because in that way you train your brain not to see any danger in doing basic things and that is how you recover from DPDR. @amsterdame eyy! It's rough, and I dunno your situ, but try little walks to your front door, step out, and stand there for as long as feels comfortable. I was stuck in my bedroom for a bit also. Can you get lorazepam and propanolol to just assist those early walks to the door? Sorry you're going through it. There are a lot of us though, you arent alone!

Hey my name is Trey. I could really really use your help. I started dealing with this in 2020, it faded away around 2022-2023, but my brother (also dealt with it extremely severe) after many hospitalizations and medications over 7 years committed suicide near 2 months ago and mine came back stronger than ever. I’m just afraid, I don’t wanna end up like him. I’m a very chill and soft spoken person who used to be so good at relaxing myself and just letting this be, but ever since he did this my brain is under immense stress and dp and I fear I don’t know how to get out this time. I’m constantly thinking about him which triggers it for me, or even if i’m thinking about other things and having good days, I feel physical anxiety which triggers the thoughts again. Would be grateful for your help

Thank you for everything you are posting here. I am curious of something, maybe you can help, or have experiencing. Have you experienced watching a straight line, or a pattern of multiple lines, and the lines tremor, or have the feeling they are moving up and down very fast? For example a shirt that has stripes, such as black and white stripes. I hope you can see this comment, or someone else could see this comment.

yeah this happens to me when i see certain patterns or a bright red and blue together, like 3d movie glasses. nothing really helps I acknowledge it as a symptom of anxiety and then look away from it and move on with my day.
