Thanks a lot for this. I almost always, and I mean every single time, get sick when I travel, all your tips are so useful when it comes to travelling. Can you do a video on how to travel alone as a first timer? I usually travel with my family and i will be travelling alone very soon and I'm absolutely terrified that I would miss my flight or do something stupid. Thanks a lot, hope you have a good day mate :)

I dreaded getting sick upon returning home from Las Vegas every March trip with my amazing husband to visit his mom and brother. The time zone difference of three hours plus daylight savings time change...ugh! This year with a direct flight and the time change earlier in the trip=yay, I didn't get sick this year! 😁

Your doctor might be willing to prescribe a broad-spectrum antibiotic to take with you on your travels. It can save you a lot of grief if you're ill away from home. There is a product called blister blocker ( or called friction blocker") possibly by Curad, that is an anti-fiction product comes in a small tibe like it oversize Chapstick in the oval shape that you can apply to areas of your feet that might get blisters. It's terrific to keep with you in a pack or purse.

Hey Becca and the Becca-ites, how are we all? Completely concur with the probiotics suggestion - when I travelled for a month through countries that are well known for having an above average frequency of tummy bugs, some of us made a point of seeking out locally made yogurt, yes even in countries not well known for their dairy. Also we discretely took to the mouth piece of soda cans with hand sanitizer gel before opening the can. I think the combination of these two points and we were the only ones within our tour group who didn't go down with a tummy bug, even the local tour guide fell ill. In the open air markets, with the evening food stalls, we made a point of going to the busiest ones, with locals and tourists alike, even if we had to wait for a table. Wouldn't stop me from going to that part of the world again, it was fabulous! Oh my travel first aid kit over the years has become smaller, realising that most places have a pharmacy where I can get fresh pharmaceutical products - all that said I pack A LOT of BandAids, half a dozen waterproof BandAids, a small tube of disinfectant, headache tablets that don't need water to dissolve, a small bottle of lavender oil to help me sleep and for insect bites, and a cold/flu/breathe easy aromatherapy blend for those symptoms and to help me wake up when I need to change planes at 3am. A 10pack of tissues lives in my day bag (for sniffles - and emergency toilet paper), and a couple spare ones live in my suitcase. Also I count insect repellent as a medical product, due to the number of mosquito related diseases in some parts of the world, and I select a heavy duty one purchased from home and that usually lives in my daypack. Hope it helps! Keep on daydreaming of your next trip....

Omg I was sick while backpacking in Japan last summer and at first I just had a horrible sinus infection. I was already sick for a week before flying to Okinawa and it definitely made my head explode and I feel like it made me more sick because I became so much more congested after. Then at the same time I had a red hot sunburn, was covered with welts from mosquito bites in the worst places, and then I somehow got an eye infection in both eyes. I had an amazing time traveling but I was suffering the whole time. Luckily the Japanese pharmacies are great, just use google translate to read the directions.

This old broad has learned, the HARD way, that you should bring a personalized first aid kit. I get sinus infection/ eye infection at the drop of a hat, so I always have decongestants and Tylenol on hand. I used to get migraines from weather shifts, but since I moved out of the Ottawa Valley to Toronto, I just get nauseating headaches. Into my kit would also go Immodium and Gravol. Because I learned that even in Canada, on VIA, sometimes a chicken sandwich is your worst enemy. And I have a chronic lymphedema/ cellulitis attack situation with my legs, so I have to take fevers and vomiting into the possible picture as well. Gravol helps. I also will take special sponge bandaging , wraps and tape, as well as scissors. in case the lymphatic fluid decides to leak out of my legs. Yeah, I don't travel a lot any more. My legs hurt too much. I have to keep them raised most of the time. I mostly go to see family in Ontario, as long as someone can buy me a train ticket, or can drive me. Oh, wait! I forgot to mention the Naproxin! I take that every day so I can use my shoulder, which has a crazy chronic tendinitis problem. I think it helps with the bone spurs too.

I pack a mini-pharmacy...getting sick in a foreign country is more than inconvenient. Pack OTC meds that you know will work for you. A 12hr cough syrup & sinus med can get you through a flight. I don't like to take medication, but I like to enjoy my vacation without being stuck in bed all day. Also, meds do not count against your liquids, just pack them in a separate baggie. Sorry about your feet in Peru, but what a great example of how we can underestimate 'discomfort'. Thanks Becca Irene!

Happy Birthday! Great video...im ALWAYS getting sick if i fly but perhaps having someone in the row behind me constantly coughing doesnt help. I watched a similar video which suggested an immune booster so ive tried taking that. I always wondered why flight attendants never seem to be sick...awesome. Not crazy about the hair but it may grow on me...(sorry in my head that was kinda funny)
