I’ve been a month sober after daily marijuana use, it’s been rough but I’m so glad I did it. I also went on keto to lose weight (weed = munchies = weight), so I have a lot of energy. I feel like I’m rediscovering myself. Still have some friendships to mend that fell apart from the addiction, and that’s been tough. Writing letters has been my go-to.

Do you have those very vivid and intense nightmares people experience when getting sober from that stuff?
@EmmanentDoom2 жыл бұрын
@@crewboy23 no, I have always had night terrors that crop up when I’m stressed. Like wake up screaming because I think something is in the room type of night terrors. Getting to sleep without weed is definitely harder though.

I related very much to the caller who moved far from her hometown. Mine was 3,000 miles. I grew so much and was stretched beyond my imagination. I am glad I went, am now a stronger and wiser person. What I realized is that I liked who I was, and the place , I came from. It felt like many of the people I was forced to interact with in the other location, wanted me to be someone I was not. Fighting to be me was important; I backed myself up. I had to be put in that situation to realize I was worth fighting for.

It's important to borrow strength when we feel like we don't have it in ourselves. Borrow from a 'healthy' friend, a family member, someone who knows there is a higher power to draw from. The most important thing is that the person(s) you choose need to be a trusted source. I reach out to Al-anon for this, but there are other sources. It's imperative you REACH OUT!!

Eddie, his 🧠 brain can heal. My son has had drug induced psychosis, PTSD, anxiety…. When he has been sober it can take a long time to heal, but he has come back to “normal”. I hope this gives you hope. My son smoked A LOT of pot, meth, and LSD. Something we have noticed in our family is a sensitivity to processed foods (fast food inevitably will bring on depression) , too much sugar and caffeine affects us as well. A healthy diet, rest, exercise… taking walks outside… those things really help. In the medication front… be EXTREMELY careful if the medication he is taking is a benzodiazepine. Xanax, diazepam… DO do research. They can end up causing WORSE anxiety. They are for VERY short term use. My 🙏🏼 prayers are with you … he can get better … a healthy lifestyle and therapy will help tremendously.

It sounds like caller 2 w/hub AND caller 1’s son was are property managers, plus all the other stuff. With certainty, both of them are out of their minds stressed out. I almost lost my mind too during COVID in that position, with 8 years under my belt. People treat that PMs worse than garbage and if you have no boundaries, you’re finished. Don’t go back to that industry. Don’t live on-property- no matter the discount. Sending love your way!

To Eddy, I claim to know little, but I do know this. Changing my diet to mostly animal products - fattier meats, eggs, butter, bacon, good fats (no sugar, no grains, no processed foods, no inflammatory foods) - dramatically impacted my mental health. Food matters for mental well-being. I’m praying for you and your son. As parents of adults, we can feel helpless when they are hurting.

Dr. Deloney, what do you think of Dr. Amen's work with brain imaging?
@tonipetrova2 жыл бұрын
To the first caller, I don't think marijuana the problem (I am not endorsing it either). I think your son has too much on his plate, more than he knows how to handle. Maybe he wants to do well, to make you as parents proud, do what he has been taught to be "right and good" but it seems that he does not know how to handle failure. He may not want to disappoint you, but at the same time he is overwhelmed. You can work with therapist, or have a talk yourself with him to let him know it is OK to make a step back at work, have a job that involves less responsibilities. At 21 you don't have enough experience and resilience to handle the same level of responsibility and withstand pressure as if you are 25, 31 or older. If he changes his job to something less intense, you will see immediate change. Life is not a a sprint, but a long-distance runs. Learn to carry just as much as you can handle, no more no less, so that you don't crash but rather grow with time.

The last caller has my empathy. Being the wife/partner of an addict (especially seggs) is a hard position to play. And just like john said, its the fact that he looks you dead in the eyes and says "my needs are more important than yours". Thats something alot of addicts do, feed their addiction with complete disregaurd for anyone elses feelings. Now, i can half way understand a drug addicts reasoning because the have to stay high to function and may be sneaky to curb the shakes.. but sex addiction doesnt physically hurt their body, so they continue to offend just to do it. Which can really mess with the wife's head. Especially because shes supposed to be the one in line to fullfill his desires, but he goes elsewhere. Its a psychological burn. And whats even sadder... is that this is so common this day and age. Seggs addicts are given a plethora of temptations and the week ones cave. And the spouse is left crumpled up in the corner.
