I bought a steamer thinking I would save time from traditional ironing. Not only do the clothes stay somewhat wrinkly, but I constantly burn myself, and it takes easily about 5 times longer than it would with an iron. What a terrible idea of mine and what a waste of my time and money. Back to the iron it is.

Melissa, I love youj, respect you, and need you, but demonstration makes a good video. I don't have a garment steamer, I have never SEEN a garment steamer, and I have never seen anyone USE a garment steamer, either. We iron. For hours! Sometimes all day on Saturday! ALL DAY ! So it would help if you would actually show a few garments and how to steam them: a wool suit or winter wool slacks - what about the lining? a silk blouse? shirts and dresses that got wrinkly in the closet altho already ironed....silky nighties, linen shirts, etc. Not just talk about it. Please. I hate ironing, but love summer cottons. But how? Will the collars pull at the corners? How can you get the button placket to lie flat? etc.

I bought a steamer a couple years ago, thinking it would be easier than ironing. I found it took much longer and was less effective than ironing. And 6 inches away? The steam rises into the air by then. Steamer heads are made smooth so they can touch the fabric. For delicate fabrics you can hold it maybe 1 inch away. This is advised in several other videos on this topic.

My current iron has a peeling teflon plate and a busted steam function. It just left a small stain on a blouse that I just made. When searching for advice online about a new iron this video came recommended. Could you use a steamer like this to remove wrinkles on a 100% cotton poplin blouse that has lots of gathering on the sleeves, and pintucks on the front? I would still need to buy a new iron but it took me ages to iron the thing so perhaps steaming is quicker.
@JudgeJulieLit5 жыл бұрын
I would guess that steaming might blur pleats and creases (as in dress pants) meant to look sharp, but might be okay for gathering, whose gathers are stitch ordained; ditto pintucks.
