I love this video and explanation. My nails curve and curl after they get so long. My thumbs, index and ring finger all do, my middle fingers and pinky’s are more straight. But I do what you said already, cutting them down and starting over, so this confirmed that I am on the right track. If I want to keep them longer I move to an almond shape so they can continue to grow long but the almond shape helps with the curve just a bit because the sides are mostly gone.

I saw the title for this video and thought, "Oh, wow, it's like this video was made for me!" and it turns out it kind of was! Thanks for addressing this! I have been doing my own gel nails since 2019 and I have decided to just live with my slanting nails. I prefer to just backfill my nails each time instead of taking it down and redoing the entire nail every few months. So my nails aren't perfect, but I make them work!

I just wanted to share my experience, I file my nails from underneath with a file. As it grows it starts to curve again but I just file it to the point where I like the shape. You dont have to do that but maybe this could help❤. Thank you dear Suzie for advice. I watch you every day🥹❤️

I love this because so many “online nail techs” say they can fix it by applying product so thick on the edge then they file the natural nail and the excess product from the bottom (of course in the end they give the same aesthetic as if you used a form, it’s just a lot more product and time. But they claim that this method will “fix” the natural nail. Drives me nuts lol!

I actually love my nails that curl down! I have quite a camber on my nails and I don’t hate that. I use gel to keep my long natural nails nice and strong 😊 I wish all my nails curled. Just like Susie said, it’s most obvious in my forefingers. However I’m disabled with severe arthritis so my fingers curve and are bent, knobbly and ugly. So I like my nails to be pretty 💜🐈⬛💜

This question is exactly what I experience, I don’t cut them though. Maybe I’ll try that next time. It’s my left index that curves sometimes it begins to hurt if it grows out too much. I love having long nails , how come acrylic girls are able to grow their nails so long? What’s the difference ?

Frrr, my index finger nails are the only ones that curve down 😭😭 But I've just begun building my extension and then filing from the top *and* the bottom with my electric file to get a straight look.
@CraftyLoops6 ай бұрын
I really struggle with the curving down and also twisting of my natural nails too. Mine twist so badly, particularly my index and middle finger. So, putting builder gel onto the cut down natural nail doesn't help encourage the natural nail to grow straighter? I was kinda hoping it did, because I am lucky that I manage to grow my natural nail pretty long but it drivers me bonkers that they curve and twist. I was kinda hoping putting gel over top would encourage them to grow straight. Lee x
@Salem_6_66 ай бұрын
Unfortunately it won't. The gel will either grow with the nail, or it will separate. It happens to me too, in my case my nails grow downwards and in a very strong C curve. So far, after many tries I've found what works best for me: good prep and application, shortening enough where the curves are less bothersome (I've learned to accept them to certain extent), apropiate shape (I've found in my case is almond, that way I can conceal some of the curving in the side view by making it more straight from tip of the nail to sidewalls), and then the products: I do rubber base first, and after color and art I do a layer of clear builder gel, so it helps with the sturdiness.
@NailCareerEducation6 ай бұрын
The nail will never straighten. It is natural that’s what happens. That’s the way your nails grow. Fake nails are to disguise it but the natural nail underneath will still grow the way it wants to grow. It’s just like if you have curly hair and you cut off all your hair it’s still gonna grow in curly.
@CraftyLoops6 ай бұрын
@@NailCareerEducation Thanks Suzie. I heard you say in your video that it will still want to curve. I was just kinda hoping that once the natural nail was cut down to the free edge, and had the gel overtop, that it might encourage the natural nail to grow a bit straighter. C'est la vie.....I should just be happy that I can grow my own nails long, teehee. Thanks so much. Lee xx

My natural nails are curving more than they did before. And I mean they were more beautiful and less curvy when I did not use gel at all but old school nail polish. And I can not figure out if the gel is making them more curvy or it is because of time and aging…

Dear Susie Thanks so much for your great videos! I cannot find any advice on the final thickness of gel nails - in my case rather long coffin shaped nails - can you maybe help ? 🫶❤️

I'm old school and back in the day curved nails were the thing. I LOVE curved nails......but I notice when I use curved tips they are a real bummer to file on the sides from the sidewalls out, and "keep" the curve. I think I understand now why the industry went the way of a straight nail from the sidewalls out. It's so much easier to maintain. I'm going to give the "straight" nails a go and see how well I like them.....I guess it's just easier to "go with the flow"......LOL!

I have terrible ski slope nails, and have been looking everywhere for info on how to correct it, 4 of my nails stick up and are very difficult to add product to, I have been watching your videos for years now but haven't seen any discussion on the issue, I do take iron as it is apparently a side affect of iron deficiency, but find I still struggle to make the stubborn nails appear straight. So far the only fix is chopping them short and using a form but the product itself (builder gel) is too weak without the support of my natural nail underneath and the rest of my nails are medium length, the ones without support have to stay short and I end up hating the whole set :( how can I have longer nails without them pointing up?

my index finger nail grows downwards, but I use full cover tips as a DIY, which leaves a large opening at the front. Luckily I can catch it with solid gel glue. I wouldn't know how else to do it. Does anyone have a good tip on how to solve this?? A fan from Holland ❤🤔

I have a couple clients that their nails do this. I have to keep reminding them that’s how they grow and unless they’re willing to spend the extra time and $ for me to fix it (surprise, they don’t want to) then they aren’t gonna magically grow straight. 🤷🏼♀️

This really helps me. I have clubbed nails & used gel, builder to help my nail keep a more normal structure. I’d stick love you to do a video on people with this nail problem. My clubbed nails, after many years of trying look more normal now. Also pinching helps me keep my nails from curving, just a slight pinch helps. Do you agree, you are the Einstein of nails, let’s all be honest, or is pinching the nail to keep it from curving more dangerous; overall? I don’t know why it helps, but it does for me & a few of my friends who have a nail that’s curved downwards also says it works for them too. Love all you do Suzie ❤🎉 & camera man 😊
