I have emetophobia (phobia of vomiting) which causes me such intense anxiety it literally rules my life sometimes. These tips really help me feel like I can worry about it less 🥰

I has emetophobia too. I haven't tried any of these but I usually eat only saltines when I'm feeling nauseous. Something about it absorbing the bad/access acid in your stomach.
@foncymemories28242 жыл бұрын
I recommend looking into getting a book about curing emetophobia. I used to have one as a kid and I can say that the book saved me from a lot of fear. I can’t tell you that it actually cured me fully but one things for sure is that I don’t spend 100% of my time worrying about throwing up anymore. The only time I worry is when it’s literally happening and then I get over it during vomiting. The reason I’m saying to attempt to get one of those books is because I have noticed that my emetophobia came from my own mental health meaning when I even thought about vomiting I would scare myself into feeling nauseous and it scared me. I’m able to control it now and I’ve been great. But not all cases are mental health. One things for sure is that I hope you and everyone who even sees this video finds a way to stop the nausea. Nausea is worse than the vomiting itself

Regarding the werthers'/gaviscon synergy: it may simply be that the sweets trigger saliva production and the secretion of a wider range of digestive enzymes than would have been present had you just taken the gaviscon alone. This would result in a more efficient breakdown of the sodium alginate in the gaviscon pill that binds the ingredients together. Therefore, the active ingredients (calcium and salts) will be directly exposed to the oesophagus and to the stomach lining as soon as they reach it, compared to if the pills had just been swallowed where the active ingredients would not have been able to do anything until they had reached the erosive pit that is your stomach. Delightful! (I came here to have a break from studying for uni exams but look what you've done to me)! That aside, this video is great. Peppermint tea is the only thing that keeps me going these days but you've given me lots of new ideas so thank you. And as a general note while I'm here I must tell you that I adore all of your videos, your hair(!!!), your dogs, your wife (lol), your smile and most of all your enthusiasm and positivity. If you know you are going to throw up, eat some vanilla ice cream or frozen yogurt. Not only will it coat your throat as you eat it slightly protecting it from the stomach acid, when it comes up it doesn't hurt or taste as bad. Slightly off topic, but if you have strep throat, creme savers or hard werthers will coat your throat and it won't hurt as bad.

I think a lot of these work because they fill your stomach. If you have an empty stomach it can make nausea far worse. That's why pregnant women have morning sickness. It's because their stomach is empty after not eating so long. Just eating a few crackers or a piece of toast can really help with nausea caused by an empty stomach even though you might not feel like eating anything.

Coke syrup is actually what a lot of people used in the fifties as an anti-emetic - my mom is on the older side, so that's what we got as kids! You may find that FLAT Diet Coke (leave a bottle open overnight) might work even better!
@RioRav3 жыл бұрын
Yes, the coca-cola works because it has phosphoric acid! :) Anti-emetics consist basically of phosphoric acid, fructose(fruit sugar) and dextrose(starch). So you can try pairing drinking your coke with a carb you know doesn't give you stomach problems like rice, oats, noodles or toast and you've got a make-due antiemetic.

When my nausea is at its worst, my THC indica Vape (which I get from a medical dispensary so it's good) will actually cause me to throw up insantly. I've been bedridden for 2 days and can't imagine using my vape during this time.. which is weird because it used to be my nausea cure !! I also heard THC causes cyclic vomiting if used every day... So I guess everyone is different. I never see others complain of nausea, so it's releiving to see others unite through this and help each other. All the best xoxo

A big problem for me is that I don't actually have a cause for my nausia/stomach cramps (that we can find yet). If I'm really careful about what I eat and when, I can control it to an extent, but if one thing goes slightly wrong, I will be sick to the point where I can't even think about drinking water. And the only way to fix it is to eat and drink certain types of foods... So for those of you who struggle to get down whatever it is that helps tame your nausia, here's your tip for the day! Always be obsessed with a Netflix series, youtuber, something you can watch and listen to (engage at least two senses) while you're eating/drinking said thing. It'll distract you enough to get it down without being sick everywhere. If watching videos is making it worse, listen to music while reading or listen to an audiobook and run one hand/foot over an interesting texture. Focus on two senses that aren't taste. And for some reason, earbuds can make it worse? I think it's cause the sound moves back and forth in many cases. So if sounds can sometimes make you sick, try without the earbuds/headphones.

I love your videos! Most of my life, I have had nausea and terrible stomach aches. When I was pregnant, I lost thirty pounds from severe "morning" sickness that lasted pretty much twenty-four hours a day. Later on, I lost eighty pounds from throwing up daily before I could get a referral to a GI specialist-- "Are you sure it isn't just nerves? Maybe you need to de-stress." Now I have medicine and a restricted diet (along with interesting photos of my innards). Sometimes throwing up is inevitable. For those times, I've found that plain vanilla ice cream, soda, and apples/applesauce are the least unpleasant things to vomit. Definitely avoid broccoli and cheese if you are certain you're going to hurl. Switching what comfort foods you eat when nauseated can keep you from associating that particular food/drink with nausea. When I was pregnant, I tended to eat Cheerios to settle my stomach. Eventually I started getting sick from even the smell of Cheerios. This won't work for folks who have sensitivity issues with temperature, but cooling my face also helps if I feel really terrible.

I have emetophobic (fear of throwing up/watching others throw up) and I think it comes from the fact that I had a bad experience with it growing up and also I’ve only thrown up twice in my life. I think my fear comes from the fact that the first time I threw up it was completely unexpected and random, there were no symptoms before or after (at least none that I can remember) and also because I’ve only thrown up twice it is still an uncommon and scary experience because I’m not familiar with it. I hope to go to therapy one day to get treatment. I read that therapy can help people manage their emetophobia for if and when they inevitably do throw up due to any circumstance. I find comfort in that, thinking about how the solution to this isn’t to prevent or stop throwing up but to stop the fear. This video helped me, not because I necessarily had to use the anti nausea tips but because it showed me that throwing up isn’t the end of the world and that I can’t let this fear hold me back.

This is so useful! Any time I take antibiotics, I get terrible stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, and other end troubles. Usually Zofran would fix it, but last time it didn't. Hopefully these will help the next time I'm ill.

I've had nausea pretty much all day for as long as I can remember partially from medication I'm on now but also partially because my body does that I don't know why. I never thought to ask anyone because I was a child and just thought that was how everyone felt. Sometimes it makes it extremely difficult to go to school or pay attention because I'm just thinking "don't throw up don't throw up don't throw up" but mostly it's just there.

When I first started having nausea as a symptom it would stay for a few hours and then it quickly became a 24 hour symptom and there was no relief. I tried a lot of remedies as well, finally my gastroenterologist put me on the combination of promethazine and omeprazole every 12 hours daily, and no more nausea and I rarely throw up though from time to time it happens. Ive been on these for years and its the only mix of medications that help.

I had a year where I experienced what could only be described as psychosomatic nausea.I'd take the train halfway to school, lie down on the seats for a bit and then eventually give up and go home because it was so bad. ginger helped A LOT, but mostly I smoked weed to get food down (which works until you have to stop and train yourself to eat again). I wouldn't recommend it to everyone because bodies react differently, but I'll definitely be trying these the next time I feel sick to my stomach!

I get really bad nausea the day after I take my meds (methotrexate), and also immediately after I swallow them. The immediate effect is probably psychosomatic (I don't like poisoning my body), but the next day effect, I believe is "real"/physical. I've found that the best thing to help my nausea is eating a lot. Especially very filling foods like mashed potatoes. Luckily, I haven't thrown up in about 15 years, so there's little chances of actually vomiting the mashed potatoes. I'll try your tricks and see how they work on my nausea. Thanks for making this video!

My gastroparesis has made me try many interesting things, but i've got real issues with artificial sweeteners so that stuff's right out. Real coke, however, is awesome. Could not live without it...also, the original formula has a 'secret' herbal base (still secret) & was marketed to the Edwardians in part as a nausea med (of course it also had cocaine in the original recipe, so would you know if you're nauseated?) & general tonic (again, coke...) before it became the ubiquitous fountain beverage. I know that I lean towards the pro sugar camp, but candied/crystallized ginger is also a great way to get a punch in the face legit ginger experience. I also really like Queasy Pops (I get them on Amazon)...they're cane sugar based & come in a number of mostly v strong essential oil flavors...ginger & peppermint but also cinnamon, lemon & raspberry, then a more mild green tea w/lemon (omg delicious) & (ehh) papaya. Highly recommended for trying out & great to carry around in the purse if they do work! Somebody mentioned orange juice in an older comment & I am totally behind that one, even though i've no idea why it works. Just a little cup, sipped very slowly. And among many other tricks, a final fave oddball...hot sauce (sometimes spicy food if I can actually eat & I feel The Big Quease coming on...cinnamon candies/gummi bears are also good). Sometimes I water down hot sauce (for drinkability) in several shot glasses & just knock them back. Was really amused by the 'Eating this because it tastes ok coming back up', so true...& learning how to 'soft vomit' so you don't bust every vein in your face daily is a great goal to strive for! Before I pull the plug on this unintentional Russian novel (it's just, most videos don't make you think, hey, i've got experience to share...because i've been continuously, violently nauseated...plus the vomiting...since 1999! Lol), I recently had my bathroom remodeled & intentionally chose ceramic tile so i'd have a nice cold spot to lie upon on the bathroom floor...it's already paid for itself & then some. 😂

Hugs! And thanks for the tips! I personally have not found most common tips like ginger etc to do anything, but I haven't tried hot sauce & will do so. That helps headaches too & capsaicin is just a very interesting compound. If you live in the US or UK (or Asia), you can order an amazing Rx anti-emetic called Granisetron. It's in the same family as Zofran, which used to work well, but drugs poop out for me very quickly. Graniset is the only one that still works. Unfortunately, I can't get it here now that I live in Germany. /chronic pain sufferer & cripple since 2009
