Brought home a golden retriever puppy (working line) a few weeks ago and see very similar behaviors in him. I was worried it was aggression. This video puts me at ease. Well keep working on the interruptions & redirects. And exercise of course!

Please help it’s a corgi. What if he’s almost to and he exposed his belly for me to pet it and I did for two seconds and three seconds he jumped up and bit my arm. Not the first time he has bit while being petted. I know we got him too young now I trusted the breeder, but what can we do?
@ann.samuel2 күн бұрын
I think the Corgi may not be fully trusting of you yet, some dogs may react like this because it thought it's personal space was invaded.

Certain breeds though… your working type terriers (this Border Terrier, my Jack Russell), working type herding dogs (mine is a cattle herding heeler) Really need a strong personality to do this. Not all normal people work well with these kinds of dogs.

I like my puppy biting, am I a bad dog owner? XD seriously though I playfight with my dogs a lot and it's never been an issue later on, like I don't just let them bite whenever they want and I think knowing when/how hard they can bite is a good skill for them to learn. dogs do a lot of communication with biting/playfighting

Now I have a fear for dogs that never had before. Growing up we always had big German shepherds and never was afraid they never bit me or anything. So it’s hard for me now to be big and assertive because I’ve visualize him doing something. it’s hard to stop visualizing this.
@ann.samuel2 күн бұрын
It's the opposite for me, I used to be scared of dogs because I was told that they bite, and there was even a movie scene (which was supposed to be comedic) featuring biting, which scared me a lot when I was very young, but after I got my first dog I wasn't as scared of them biting because I had to face the reality of puppy biting and to teach them well.

What if the collar area touch is a no go zone, as the dog hates putting on collar/ leash harness etc?
@lagottessaКүн бұрын
I would call myself a balanced trainer and very much believe in rules and boundaries etc. But I must say I find teaching how to correct puppies is a super tricky road... It is SO very easy, for the average dog owner, to make a small puppy afraid of you, or super confused, instead of learning what you intended. Or it just turns into conflict. All of what you are saying in this video, Will, is true, but I think you underestimate your own experience and how difficult it is for the average dog owner to implement what you are demonstrating. I find 100% that puppies DO grow out of puppy biting - as long as: you never encourage it, but always interrupt it. The interruption may be get an alternative chew toy out, leave the room, maybe put the pup behind a child gate for a while to calm down, maybe redirect towards a nose activity or treat search. I find that puppy buyers basically only have to be reassured that it is NOT aggression, to be able to calmly implement the above advice. As a breeder and dog trainer I don't know of a single dog that is a grown dog that still does "puppy biting". :-)

The interruption that works perfectly with my small Münsterlander hunting dog since he was a puppy is to very shortly give a deep growl. He immediately submits and tries to lick my mouth, stopping whatever he did.

Just got a 8 week old frenchie, I’ve tried all kinds of different things but we can’t get him to stop biting, he won’t go in the crate either so he sleeps downstairs but he won’t go on the puppy pads even though he went on them for the first couple days but it’s not like he will go outside because it’s wet. He also barks and whines when we leave so if anyone has any tips it would be great

For the bitting you can. Take off all access to his toy. Only keep one chewing toy accessible. When he bite you say “No” and you give him the chewing toy when he chew the toy you pray him. To get him room clean the real solution is taking him outside at first every h when he pee candy big praying and you can go home, but you go back inside only when he has peed if not you stay outside. If he doesn’t whant to go outside because it’s wait just pick him put and go outside. Remember it is a baby and having a puppy is not easy and exhausting even for experienced owners
@Yatsun_jКүн бұрын
Also you should not leave a 8weeks old puppy alone, that completely normal he barks. If you live you need to do it gradually and give him something to do. Like a frozen kong. And you start first with 1min then 2min and you increase gradually. Until the day where he can be alone 6h

Don't trust a dog 'trainer' who teaches you to STOP puppy biting. ALL dogs have to learn play-biting, and the ONLY way they can learn that, is by doing it. Like handling a small child, do it gently with clear, but friendly, commands. You need your dog to know what a pay bite is,otherwise you will have a dangerous dog.

I would love to see you be successful with this dog

You don't have to let them gnaw on you or your child's hand to teach bite inhibition. I've been using clicker training and hand feeding to teach a soft mouth. Been working very well so far. Get them with other dogs too, saw MASSIVE improvements with my pup after some structured play with other puppies.
@Austinlorentzan54992 күн бұрын
@@sawyer4981 Good to hear your training went well but you are assuming every dog will learn the same way as yours.
@JamieVauxnut12 күн бұрын
Most dogs I've had you can try , distraction, vocalising and physically stopping them puppy biting but they do grow out of it after a fee months . The training only starts to work when they have decided to stop , either beginning to reach a age where they are learning or the irritation from teaching has stopped . That's not to say don't try and prevent it with training but often feels like it's going nowhere until you reach that point . We got ripped to threads by our current boerbeol for 8 weeks of teathing just due to his size

Puppy bites must stop in 2 days!.you can not raise a puppy or dog without correction! And trust and believe me ,never ever hit your puppy or dog ,but a fair correction ,you're dog wil understand that immediately
