Welcome back to another edition of How to freestyle dance, Ask A Paradox. I am back to answer all you dance questions. I answered four dance questions in this video regarding how to hip hop freestyle dance.
In this How to hip hop freestyle video log i answer to the questions: How to stop repeating dance moves. What to do when you stop growing in dance. How many times should you practive for hip hop freestyle dance. And how to always dance good.
How to Freestyle Hip Hop Dance Vlog Q&A:
How to stop repeating dance moves:
1. Understand the reason of your limitation and loop and you will find the cure. To stop repeating dance moves we need more dance vocabulary so that we can create more variation in our freestyle dance.
2. Making your weakness your strenght.
The fact that we use the same dance moves over and over again when we freestyle. Is also a given chance to have moment of concious movement in our dance. A point where we reflect on your own movement while we dance because we notice that we again do the same dance move in our freestyle. This can be a trigger to create new dance movements. So my tip is to create 5 variations out off the dance move that you keep repeating. This way you create dance vocabulary and am able to make a strenght out off your weakness.
3. Learn as many dance styles as possible.
Different dance styles will give you a more broad view on dance.
Different dance styles have a different perspective of freestyle dance. With that you approach dance from allot of different angles and understandings. This can spark new idea's in your freestyle dance and will help you overcome your dance barriers.
How to grow when you are stuck in dance
1. The dancers dip
Being stuck in dance is a very common thing. The feeling of not being able to grow and become better is something we all go through. Knowing that this is a phase of your dance is very important. Just like knowing of the phases of seasons we learn to understand that we have to go and grow through them. Those in the summer prepare for the winter, those in the winter get ready to get back to the summer. Same works with your dance. Knowing the dip is there to come will help us to overcome it and push through. After every night comes another day.
2. Take a break.
Taking breaks is just as important as dance practice.
Only when we take a break are bodies can fully absorb and adapt to the new motion we have been exposing it to.
3. Expose yourself to new movement
Dance was created from inspiration of feeling and of movement.
Before dance existed, the inspiration for a dancer was not dance. But the beauty of movement around them and the feeling of music and emotion. Sometimes it is very important to go back to this and search not for inspiration in basic dance movement but in other things of life. taking inspiration from movement itself or even something else will help our freestyle dance to form in new ways.
3. Letting go of what you know
Our bodies become used to the training and movement we give it. If i would eat the same food every day at a certain point it will taste tasteless. Same works with training. Exposing ourself to the same training over and over again will get us into a habit of same movement and that way your body doens't explore and doesn't grow any more. So be creative with your freestyle dance training.

What I like about this series is that a lot of these questions are questions I had myself. It's a little more comfortable knowing that there are other dancers out there that are going through/have the same feeling as I have/did.

note to self How to stop repeating moves -lack vocabulary, learn as many techniques from different styles -can make it as your 'trigger' to make various variations. Stopped growing -take a breaks when needed -search for new ways to practice -dont be afraid to stop training on one area to try a new area. it will come back anyway. but expect it to be lower but the one you're trying will be higher -empty your cup Practice -worry about HOW you practice not HOW MUCH. -rest is good too, it will let your body remember your movements. How to dance naturally -dont try to be good and force creativity. let it flow, be vulnerable, dance based on how you feel. -keep filming your dance/show your dance to people. this will make you be familiar with the 'good/forcing' feeling into your natural creative state. -what you wear is a factor

thanks a lot for answering. I can really relate to your answers and that makes me feel good becouse it shows I'm on the right path. to any dancers that are in a dip or in a loop what helped me to get out of it is filming my selfe everytime I go practice becouse you get a different perspective on what you look like compare to looking at your selfe through the mirror.

Question, My mom always told me that I have to master 100 routines in choreography before starting to practice freestyle, they told me that freestyle dance is only for the ones who mastered a lot of choreographies, whenever i show them my freestyle dance, they always tell me that I lack choreography, but my moves are pretty smooth, but when they watch other freestyle dancers, they said to me that they have enough choreographies, as of now i already done 13 choreography routines, i’m working on my 14th routine, still got a long way to go before I can improve and practice my freestyle, with that whenever i dance with imitating others choreography and copying styles, they are impressed in my dance, but if it is just me dancing on my own, they will see it awkward, and that’s it, after 10 seconds, no comments, it hurts because i love freestyle more than choreography, and so on, I feel like I’m always doing everything wrong, I’ve been dancing for about 3 months ago, they said my freestyle is super akward, I cried one time, but never gave up, Should I master 100 choreographies before starting to learn how to freestyle?

Hey, Paradox! Do you have any advice for overcoming stress during a freestyle performance and being able to control thoughts and dance and acting in a freestyle? I catch myself being kinda paralyzed when I gotta freestyle at contests, for other people in class etc. and I don't show what I really can and it's way less what I'm capable of. Thank you for these videos! sending love and hugs from Poland 😄 💜

Dude, I must say, the things you've said about growth and evolving into new techniques, I understand better now after I watched you in SDF this year. You were already a great dancer but dude you were looking invincible! And this is coming from a guy that basically watches everything dance related. So many concepts, groove, musicality, groundwork, footwork, isolation, waves.... all together. At some point I was like : Is he going to stop for a while or maybe repeat something ?? But you've surprised me every single round. Now I understand how you evolve into that. Thanks for the wisdom and congratulations for the well-deserved championship!

1) What do you think where dance is going? What do you think dance will be like in 5 years? 10 years? 2) Do you try urban dance choreographies? Then what did you learn from it? Do you think you'll be a choreographer someday? 3) What are the things you would say you're bringing to the "table'? What are the new things of you? And how's the attitude of the OGs to the new generation?
