Intolerance of uncertainty is like a psychological allergy to uncertainty. For some people who are more intolerant of uncertainty, all it takes is for there to be just a little bit of uncertainty in a situation and it can cause a big emotional reaction for that person - they get anxious, worried and overwhelmed. Whereas, for someone who is not intolerant of uncertainty, they can be in the exact same situation and not feel anxious at all.
This video explains how intolerance of uncertainty can lead to you second guessing yourself after you’ve made decisions. Decisions, by their nature, are uncertain and it can often be difficult to know exactly what the right decision is. By second guessing yourself, the goal is to try to reduce the uncertainty about whether or not you made the wrong decision by collecting information after the fact to get a better sense of what the outcome was. However, second guessing yourself tends to undermine confidence and makes you a lot less efficient, because you’re constantly reviewing decisions that you’ve already made. Therefore, it’s important to practice eliminating second-guessing yourself by reminding yourself that there is little benefit from reviewing a decision you’ve already made. In doing so, this can foster a sense of contentment that not everything you do and that not every decision you have to make has to be confirmed as the absolute perfect decision. This can result in you feeling more confident, more content and less anxious.

What if my mother is always second guessing me? lol. I actually caught her doing it the other day and called her out! I'm like mom, I sold the house 2 years ago now. Why do you keep saying I should have got more money for it? Yet, after I hung up with her, I felt awful/ stupid /taken advantage of. None of these feelings were felt prior to this conversation! -- thanks for sharing all your experience with us doctor. always helpful.

Dr.Nader, you are so excellent at what you do! Your counseling videos have helped me more than the many, many years of purposeless sessions that did nothing for me but make me feel bad and increase my hopelessness. I had a hopeless feeling that nothing could truly help me bc it wasn't
